Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan Prediction, Picks & Odds Week 10: Another Chippewas Under?

Check out our Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan prediction for their Week 10 college football matchup based on the best NCAAF odds.

The Central Michigan Chippewas host the Northern Illinois Huskies to kick off a MAC Halloween doubleheader on Tuesday, and we offer our best Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan prediction based on the best college football odds.

Northern Illinois (4-4, 3-1 MAC) finds itself in a situation where it must secure a victory this week to maintain its hopes of winning the MAC West division. Although the Huskies hold a record of nine appearances in the MAC Championship Games and share the record for the most wins (five) in those games, their prospects were dented by a Week 5 loss to Toledo, marking the fourth consecutive loss. Nonetheless, they have mounted a comeback by securing three consecutive victories, collectively outscoring their opponents by 58 points.

Central Michigan (4-4, 2-2 MAC) has displayed a pattern of alternating wins and losses over the past four weeks. While the Chippewas maintain a flawless 3-0 record at home, their road performance is less impressive with a 1-4 record in five games away from Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Central Michigan has notably been dominant in recent matchups against the Huskies, emerging victorious in three of their last four encounters, each time by a margin of 13 points or more.

To accompany our college football Week 10 predictions, here is our best Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan prediction and our college football picks (odds via our best college football betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan prediction: Week 10

Under 46.5 (-110 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐

Northern Illinois and Central Michigan have a history of playing high-scoring games, as they have combined for 44 or fewer points in just one of the last 11 meetings. In addition, the winning team has scored 30 or more points in 21 of the previous 23 matchups, and the O/U has been set at 49.5 or higher in each of the last four meetings, with the Over cashing in three. However, neither team has had the offensive success this season that they are accustomed to, and the weather should aid in keeping this game low-scoring.

The Chippewas have averaged just 18.3 points per game in their four conference games, including scoring just 17 points in their last home game against an Akron team that ranks outside the top five MAC teams in total defense and is ninth in scoring defense (29.4 points per game allowed).

The Chippewas defense, entering their last game against Ball State, ranked 110th or worse in Quality Drives allowed, Finishing Drives, Rush Success, Pass Success, and Havoc, but the Under has still cashed in their last three games. We do not expect a Northern Illinois offense that ranks outside the top 80 in Success Rate, 94th in Explosiveness, and 115th in Points Per Opportunity to take advantage of Central Michigan’s defensive deficiencies. And with chances of rain and snow showers and temperatures dropping into the 20s, big plays offensively will be even harder to come by.

As Under backers, we are making FanDuel our go-to shop, as it is the only one of our top sportsbooks offering a total as high as 46.5. BetRivers also offers 46.5, but its Under is juiced to -113. We would play this total down to 45.5, taking advantage of the best number possible. Both teams have O/U records of 4-4 in their eight games.

Northern Illinois vs. Central Michigan odds analysis

Caesars opened the highest of all sportsbooks at 47.5, but that number was bet down 1.5 points to 46 within an hour of opening. DraftKings saw similar movement down from 47 to 46, which suggests sharp action has backed the Under early in the week.

All of our best sports betting apps are in unison, with Northern Illinois being a 3.5-point favorite. There has been significant line movement at both Caesars and DraftKings to this point, as the line moved off the key number of -3 in support of Northern Illinois. Central Michigan has covered just two of its eight games, while Northern Illinois has an ATS record of 4-4.
