Last year, Kalen DeBoer's program shocked everyone in this matchup, and my early Alabama vs. Georgia prediction expects the Crimson Tide to have the Bulldogs on their heels once again as part of my college football picks.

The rematch of last year's instant classic is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC) on Saturday from Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga., with the Bulldogs sitting as a 3.5-point betting favorite.

This is one of four top 25 matchups our college football predictions for Week 5 are breaking down.

🐘 Alabama +3.5 (-120) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

If Alabama lost on the road against a top 10 SEC team to start the season, there probably wouldn't have been Alabama next coach odds available a few days later. But the Crimson Tide lost to a then-unranked Florida State squad coming off a 2-10 season. However, the Seminoles are now ranked No. 8 and look like the same team that went 13-1 two years ago.

My point is, the Crimson Tide panic was overblown, and this team once again looks like a legitimate College Football Playoff odds contender after whipping Wisconsin two weeks ago. Coming off a bye, I think Ty Simpson, Ryan Williams, and Germie Bernard can take advantage of an underachieving Georgia secondary and keep this game close, if not win outright, for the second year in a row.

DeBoer knows offense, and Simpson has settled in as QB1 and even looks like a Heisman Trophy odds sleeper - he's top 15 in the country in QBR (81.5), TD passes (9), and adjusted completion rate (82.4%). Plus, this defense bounced back in a big way against the Badgers and is littered with NFL talent.

Alabama is one of just two teams ranked in the top eight in both offense and defense by SP+, while Georgia ranks outside the top 10 in both. That's why I'm all in on the Crimson Tide covering this 3.5-point spread and a $10 bet at BetMGM paying an $8.33 profit.

🔍 Alabama vs. Georgia odds analysis

Georgia opened as a 3.5-point betting favorite at most of our best college football betting sites, and the line has seen little movement thus far. Alabama is +2.5 to +3.5 at most books, and while I'm eager to jump on the Crimson Tide covering that 3.5-point spread, this line could shift further in Georgia's direction due to public perception.

The Bulldogs have 67% of bettors backing them early to cover, likely because of all the negative publicity over the Crimson Tide early in the season. However, I think Alabama can win this outright and am more than happy to take them +3.5 now.

How do college football odds work?

When betting on college football odds, the point spread shows how many points the favorite needs to win by in order to cash the bet. For example, a favorite of -3 must win by more than 3 points to cover the spread, while an underdog at +3 must win outright or lose by fewer than 3 points to cover the spread.

Moneyline odds represent the payout for picking the outright winner (+200 means a $100 bet wins $200, while -200 means a $200 bet wins $100). Over/Unders let you wager on whether the combined total will be higher or lower than the set number.
