Conference USA Predictions 2026: Odds, Best Bets & Sleeper Picks

October may seem far off, but if you don't properly prepare for those weeknights now, Conference USA could surprise you then.

The 10-team conference may not be a College Football Playoff contender - even an unbeaten season from Liberty would lack any Power Four wins and thus likely not draw enough praise from the selection committee - but if you recognize the coming chaos, C-USA can be the most enjoyable conference in college football.

No, really. It has had more one-possession games in recent years than any other conference. Chaos and consternation is the default here, where “here” spans from New Mexico to Delaware. Here are my Conference USA predictions and best bets based on the preseason odds.

Who is favored to win Conference USA?

Seven of the 10 teams in Conference USA should be considered in the bottom quarter of the country, and the three remaining “contenders” are not exactly going to threaten the college football national championship odds. Western Kentucky, Liberty, and Jacksonville State are a cut above the rest of the conference, even though it was Kennesaw State that won C-USA last year.

Yet the Owls return only two offensive starters and just nine of the 19 defensive contributors with at least 200 snaps last season. Furthermore, Kennesaw State faces all three of those contenders. In a 10-team conference with an eight-game conference schedule, missing New Mexico State is simply an unfortunate draw.

That's why I'd recommend focusing instead on those three that are analytically better than the defending champions. They all also have longer track records than Kennesaw State’s one-year surprise.

Western Kentucky has won at least eight games in five straight years. Jacksonville State has nine wins in each of the last three seasons and reached the C-USA title game a year ago. Yet the best bet to win the conference should be on Liberty at +310 via FanDuel.

Such a bet must ponder both why not the other contenders and why the Flames.

Who else could win Conference USA?

The Hilltoppers may be undone by attempting to build an offensive line through the transfer portal, relying on only senior right tackle Karsten Upchurch for institutional knowledge. Head coach Tyson Helton effectively flips his offensive staff and scheme each season as successes yield to promotions for his coordinators, so incorporating a new offensive line may be less a worry for Western Kentucky than for most programs, but it is still a terrifying proposition.

The Hilltoppers are offered a unique gift in their schedule. One might argue their season does not truly begin until mid-November, when their final three games will feature Jacksonville State, Liberty, and Kennesaw State. Those 15 days could springboard Western Kentucky into conference contention if that offensive line has thoroughly coalesced by then.

Perhaps keep that in mind if Big Red starts the season 0-3 (at Nevada, at Georgia, and at Indiana); odds could have jumped from the +290 currently available at Caesars.

Doubting Jacksonville State is a bit simpler: the scheduling matrix did the Gamecocks no favors, sending them to both Kennesaw State and Western Kentucky. When your two biggest games are both on the road, some doubt should factor into your future odds (+525 at Caesars).

Why should you bet Liberty to win C-USA?

Then there is Liberty, annually the most talented roster in Conference USA and glad to host Western Kentucky in late November.

Head coach Jamey Chadwell had some health issues last summer and coached through it en route to a 4-8 season, and he told reporters this week at Conference USA media day that it's a "night and day" difference from how he feels now. It didn't help that the Flames went 1-4 in one-score games in their worst season as an FBS school.

With former Army star running back Kanye Udoh in the backfield after a year at Arizona State, Chadwell should have a feature that returns his offense to among the nation’s rushing leaders as it was in 2023 and 2024. The best roster, a favorable schedule, and a renewed focus create too much value in Liberty to ignore.

If you're looking to fade the top contenders in this conference, there's no better value bet than Delaware to win Conference USA - a bet available at +750 odds via FanDuel. You can also bet Delaware Over 5.5 wins at Circa Sports, which is my best win total bet for C-USA ahead of the season.

The Blue Hens return more production than anyone else in the conference, by a healthy margin, for the second straight year. If it's possible for a team entering its second season at the FBS level to be experienced, Delaware is.

Ryan Carty's group went 4-2 in one-score games last regular season but just 2-2 in conference play; the close games inherent to Conference USA are not newfound territory for Delaware, and if some luck comes its way, then that experience may yield a championship game berth.

The Blue Hens also feature a favorable schedule, which makes the Over on their win total an appealing bet. They should start 1-3 with a season-opening win against FCS-level Merrimack followed by Vanderbilt, Coastal Carolina, and Virginia. But from there, Delaware is definitively better than Middle Tennessee, Missouri State, and New Mexico State and somewhat level with Florida International in a home matchup.

Sweeping those four games may be ambitious, but doing so would leave Delaware needing just one upset to top this win total. Given the penchant for tight games in C-USA, such an upset is not a lofty thought, nor is the idea of two of them if needed.

In addition to Delaware Over 5.5 wins, I'm also targeting two Under bets this season with odds via Circa Sportsbook:

Middle Tennessee Under 3.5 Wins (+130)

Doubt Middle Tennessee all season. As Derek Mason enters his third season in Murfreesboro, a third season at 3-9 should be expected.

The Blue Raiders return one offensive starter, including none along the offensive line. Their defensive front seven returns just one starter. Sure, last year’s starters went 3-9 so some turnover may be a good thing, but the imports are not necessarily upgrades.

This team faces just two of the three comparable opponents in Conference USA, heading on the road to face Sam Houston before finishing the season against New Mexico State. If Middle Tennessee is 2-8 entering those two games, how much of the roster is going to remain engaged to end on a winning streak?

Missouri State Under 4.5 wins (-140)

After a 7-5 campaign in its FBS debut, Missouri State lost head coach Ryan Beard to Coastal Carolina. That simply creates too much roster turnover to be managed. The juice on this bet removed it from best bets consideration, but I'd still target this bet with a lesser wager and elevate it to a best bet with better odds.
