In the opening game of the College Football Playoff, my Alabama vs. Georgia player props expect the Sooners to come out victorious once again.

With both Alabama and Oklahoma being offered as 1.5-point betting favorites, depending on the sportsbook, tonight's CFP matchup (8 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN) from Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., is essentially a pick'em. This is the first College Football Playoff game of the college football bowl games this week.

John Mateer, QB, Oklahoma: Over 1.5 passing TDs (+190) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It might seem crazy, but I can't help myself from backing John Mateer to go Over 1.5 passing TDs, especially at this price. The Sooners' QB has struggled since mid-season thumb surgery; however, he's thrown two TD passes in back-to-back games against defenses ranked top 15 by SP+.

More importantly, Oklahoma's offense is going to rely heavily on him in the first round of the CFP, with the Sooners' running back room being a combo of banged-up and ineffective.

Even with Mateer's inconsistencies, he's averaging 32.4 pass attempts per game.

Ty Simpson, QB, Alabama: Under 240.5 passing yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐

Oklahoma has the best defense in the SEC, allowing just 13.9 PPG, and is ranked No. 3 by SP+ thanks to an elite pass rush.

The last time these two played, Ty Simpson didn't even have to deal with OU's best defensive player, R Mason Thomas. Thomas will be back tonight, and leads a pass rush that's No. 1 in the country in sacks (41).

With defenses keying in on Simpson due to the Crimson Tide's lack of a run game, the one-time Heisman favorite is averaging 160.3 passing yards per game in his last three outings.

Ryan Williams, WR, Alabama: Under46.5 receiving yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Going hand in hand with the Under on Simpson's passing yards is the Under on Ryan Williams' receiving yards. The sophomore has not lived up to the hype he created as a freshman and has been a ghost down the stretch for Alabama, averaging 27.2 receiving yards per game over his last four games.

Williams is facing an Oklahoma defense that's No. 5 in EPA per pass, and it doesn't help his cause that he's been targeted more than five times just once in his last eight games.

That includes zero targets in the Iron Bowl.
