BetMGM opened the 2023 College Football National Championship odds with the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide as co-favorites. Will we see a repeat of the 2022 National Championship?

Head coach Nick Saban and Alabama do reloads better than any other program in college football, but have the Crimson Tide ever returned the top two players in college football?

Ohio State's offense returns a lot of firepower, but the defense will be looking much better under new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles in 2023.

Caleb Williams could transfer to USC, and Clemson is trending downward.

We take a look at the opening college football odds for the 2023 National Championship (odds via BetMGM).

2023 National Championship Futures Report

Georgia Bulldogs (+200)

The Bulldogs will continue to have senior leadership under center in 2023 under QB JT Daniels. There is no reason to lock up your money at +200 for a year but expect the Dawgs to be in the College Football Playoff again next year.

Recommendation: Fade

To be clear: this is a fade of Georgia's current odds fresh off the national championship win, and not a fade of the team.

Alabama Crimson Tide (+200)

Linebacker Will Anderson Jr., who isn't draft-eligible until 2023, could be the best defensive player to play under Saban. Saban also returns Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Bryce Young for his junior season. Alabama is your sure-fire favorite to win in 2023 with a top recruiting class and some key transfers.

However, at this price, I'm not interested in investing in Alabama a year away from the championship game, much like Georgia.

Ohio State Buckeyes (+600)

I have high expectations for the Buckeyes in 2023. With QB C.J. Stroud, RB TreVeyon Henderson, and WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba returning, the offense will be explosive. Knowles was hired away from Oklahoma State, where he coached one of the premier defenses in 2022. The +600 odds are too short for me to invest in this early. However, you might need to get on Ohio State at this price in August, before the Buckeyes play Notre Dame in Week 1.

Recommendation: Watchlist

Clemson Tigers (+800)

247 Sports ranked the Tigers' 2022 recruiting class 25th in the country. This is their lowest recruiting class ranking since 2010, when their recruiting class ranked 27th. Dabo Swinney has been openly critical of the NIL contracts, and his name has been floated for some NFL openings. With a price of +800, I'm staying clear of the Tigers, especially with the uncertainty surrounding the coaching staff.

Recommendation: Sell

Texas A&M Aggies (+3500)

On 247 Sports, the Aggies have the No. 1 recruiting class, and their boosters have put out a lot of money to make this happen. In order to make this possible, Texas A&M boosters are reported to have spent upward of $30 million on NIL deals. The Aggies beat Alabama this season but getting out of the SEC is no easy feat.

Recommendation: Fade

USC Trojans (+3500)

I believe head coach Lincoln Riley will be a home run hire for USC and he will be able to get elite talent to Southern Cal. The Trojans will have one of the easier paths to the playoffs through the Pac-12. With QB Jaxson Dart entering the transfer portal, it appears Williams is on his was to join Riley at USC. The value of USC at +3500 will depend on how Riley does in recruiting via the portal.
