South Carolina lawmakers introduced House Bill 5277 to the House Committee on Judiciary on Thursday, which includes legislation to legalize retail and mobile sports betting in the state.

The bill was introduced by Republican Representative William Herbkersman and co-sponsored by Democratic Representative Todd Rutherford, so there is at least initial bipartisan support for the bill.

The bill would enable eight to 12 mobile sportsbooks in the state with a 10% sports betting tax rate on gross revenue. Additionally, a $500,000 licensing fee will be required.

It’s also interesting to see crypto currencies listed among the acceptable cash equivalents in the bill.
