Seahawks Now Favorite to Pick Quarterback Malik Willis

Malik Willis was favored to be the first quarterback off the board in the 2022 NFL Draft, and yet, his name was not called in the first round, so he is a compelling player to watch going into the second round of the draft Friday night.
With all due respect to Drew Lock, who was acquired in the Russell Wilson trade, the Seattle Seahawks still need a long-term answer at quarterback and the odds at FanDuel suggest that Seattle is the favored team to select Willis.

Admittedly, this year’s quarterback crop was not expected to be outstanding, and Kenny Pickett was the only quarterback taken in the first round, going from the University of Pittsburgh to the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 20th pick.
When it comes to the teams still in the hunt for Willis in the second round, it goes without saying that a trade can change the order in an instant, but the second round begins with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, followed by the Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Houston Texans, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and then the Seahawks hold the eighth and ninth picks in the second round.
The Buccaneers have Tom Brady, and who knows how long he will play, or how long he will remain in Tampa Bay?
Kirk Cousins is the Vikings starter and Ryan Tannehill has the starting QB job in Tennessee. Daniel Jones is the starter for the Giants and they just declined his fifth year option. Davis Mills is No. 1 on the Houston Texans’ depth chart (though Baker Mayfield rumors are percolating) and the New York Jets would seem unlikely to take another quarterback after drafting Zach Wilson with the No. 2 pick last year. The Bears drafted Justin Fields with the 11th pick last year.
FanDuel has Willis priced at +2400 to go with the first pick of the second round, and +1100 to be the second pick of the second round.
Willis’ pick position Over/Under at FanDuel is 35.5, with the Under priced at -172 (subject to change).
FanDuel also has Willis as the favorite (-550) to now be the second quarterback selected behind Pickett.

There may be some uncertainty about the competition Willis faced while playing at Liberty and it might take some time for him to become an NFL starter, but he does look like a very intriguing option in the second round, especially for teams that did not expect him to still be on the board.
