Gaming revenue generated by iGaming operators in Ontario hit $313.2 million in April, according to figures published by iGaming Ontario. This represents a 25% increase from the same point last year. iGaming also saw revenue rise from the previous month despite a drop in consumer spending.

Combined revenue across all licensed iGaming operators in April last year was $250 million, while April 2025’s total was $296 million. That shakes out as a 5.8% month-on-month increase.

Ontario's regulated iGaming markets launched in 2022 and have shown consistent growth since then. In their second year, gaming revenue totaled $2.4 billion, while in their third year of operation, it further matured to reach $3.2 billion in gaming revenue.

Casino gaming dominates

Ontario online casinos accounted for the majority of April’s year-on-year revenue increase. This segment generated $248 million in the month, representing a 35.6% increase compared to the previous year's total.

The remainder of the total was made up by sports betting, which produced $64.5 million, which was more or less equal to last April’s number, and poker, which generated $5.9 million, for a small year-on-year rise of 3.5%.

Online casino revenue accounted for 78% of April’s total, while sports betting registered at 21% and poker produced only 2% of the combined amount.

Bettors spent less

Despite the improved revenue figures, there was a drop in the amount of money wagered by consumers compared to March. The total amount wagered on iGaming and Ontario sports betting in March was $8 billion, which fell to $7.8 billion in April, a decline of 2%.

The year-on-year figures, however, showed a significant increase in player spending. Total spend on online casino bets was $6.58 billion in April, representing a rise of 14.1%, while sports betting wagers totalled $1.07 billion, up 14.1% year-on-year.

There was also good news for online operators regarding the number of active players. According to the iGaming Ontario figures, there were 1.1 million active monthly player accounts in April, representing a rise of 20.3% from last year and a 2.8% rise from March.

The average revenue per active player account was also up to $287, an increase of 4% year over year and 2.9% in March.

The Ontario online gambling sector is the first in Canada to be commercially competitive. It currently includes 49 iGaming and sports betting operators and oversees 83 online betting platforms.

The success of the Ontario market has led to plans to launch similar markets in other Canadian provinces, with Alberta sports betting and Alberta online casino regulated markets expected to launch in early 2026.
