Online casino revenue in New Jersey hit a new record, as casino operators generated $246.8 million in May 2025. That 28.5% year-on-year increase in revenue was powered mainly by revenue of $244.2 million from online slots and table games, with an additional $2.7 million from peer-to-peer poker. It was a big month for the best real-money online casinos.

FanDuel led the market with $54.5 million in iGaming revenue, a 36.1% rise year-on-year. Close behind in second was DraftKings, which had a monthly total of $48.1 million, a 13.8% increase.

According to data published by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, New Jersey's overall gaming revenue, including online gaming, land-based casinos, and sports wagering, reached $614.7 million, representing a 20.5% year-over-year increase.

Land-based casinos generated $265.3 million in revenue in May 2025, exceeding iGaming and sports wagering for the first time in several months and a 10.9% year-over-year increase. Slot machines drove the growth with $194.8 million in revenue, while another $70.5 million came from table games.

New Jersey sports betting totaled $102.5 million in May, representing a 30.2% year-over-year increase. Online betting generated $98 million, while retail sportsbooks made $4.5 million, reflecting a 326.6% rise from the previous year.

The state collected $66.8 million in total gross revenue taxes in May, with iGaming contributing £37.1 million, land-based casinos $16.5 million, online sports betting $12.7 million, and retail sports betting $454,000.

Year-to-date, total gambling revenue in the state has increased by 6.6%, reaching $2.7 billion, with several months like March seeing equal success for New Jersey gambling; $1.2 billion was generated by New Jersey online casinos, with another $1.1 billion coming from land-based casinos and $460.2 million generated by sports betting.

Debate over smoking ban

As gaming revenues continue to grow, lawmakers are focusing on indoor smoking in Atlantic City casinos. SB 1493 proposes banning smoking in AC casinos, and amid the gubernatorial battle, Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill has stated his support for a ban.

“It is unacceptable to force working families to make a choice between earning their paycheck and protecting their health, particularly given that we know lung cancer is the top cause of cancer deaths in New Jersey,” he said.

Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli has taken the opposite position, with a spokesman saying, “Jack believes this decision should be left up to the employers and the employee unions.”

SB 1493 has a strong chance of passing the Assembly, but it remains to be seen whether the legislation will be supported and become law.
