Andrew Wiggins Enters NBA Finals MVP Award Discussion

Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins scored 26 points with 13 rebounds, two assists, a block and two steals during Monday’s 104-94 win over the Boston Celtics, and his odds to win the NBA Finals MVP Award dropped considerably at BetMGM following his standout showing.

His 26 points and 13 boards led Golden State.

Warriors point guard Stephen Curry remains the consensus favorite to win the NBA Finals MVP Award for the first time in his career heading into Game 6 at TD Garden in Boston, MA, on Thursday.

Interestingly, though, Monday’s victory was the first game Curry failed to connect from beyond the arc since 2018. He finished with 16 points, three rebounds and eight assists.

Boston Celtics forwards Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown remain in the MVP conversation, but with the Celtics also now a longshot to win the championship alongside their inconsistent play, it’s now Curry’s award to lose.

After all, Tatum has shot just 5-for-21 in the fourth quarter during the finals, and Brown has been solid but unspectacular with an average of 21.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists through the first five games.

Boston is now +320 to win the series at FanDuel Sportsbook, but the Celtics are listed as a 3.5-point favorite and -162 on the moneyline to win Game 6 at home Thursday.

Returning to Wiggins, his averages of 18.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game during the finals definitely don’t jump off the page, but he’s aced the eye test defensively. His 13 defensive rebounds through the past two games attest and are also particularly impressive.

It’s also worth highlighting the disparity in the odds in this market across the four listed sportsbooks. While DraftKings Sportsbook is offering the best return for prospective Curry backers, their number for Brown and Wiggins is the worst available.

BetMGM and FanDuel have the highest odds listed for Wiggins to win the MVP Award, whereas Caesars Sportsbook has the best number hanging for Brown.Make sure to keep an eye on our Live Odds page throughout the week to get the best lines possible and connect with others in the SBR community on our popular sports betting forum.
