It was a historic Saturday in college hoops, favorites dominated in the NHL, and there was a long-shot winner Sunday at The Honda Classic. Here’s a quick run through of the betting happenings from the weekend.
Historic CBB Upsets Saturday
Not that March Madness needs any momentum leading into the tournament, but it was supplied in spades Saturday, and bettors received a snapshot of one of the reasons the tournament is beloved: Upsets.
Saturday was a historic CBB slate with seven of the top-10 teams losing, and it was the first time every top-six team lost.
No. 23 St. Mary’s topped No. 1 Gonzaga 67-57Colorado topped No. 2 Arizona 79-63No. 17 Tennessee topped No.3 Auburn 67-62Michigan State topped No. 4 Purdue 68-65No. 10 Baylor topped No. 5 Kansas 80-70No. 18 Arkansas topped No. 6 Kentucky 75-73TCU topped No. 9 Texas Tech 69-66https://twitter.com/ESPNStatsInfo/status/1497800073077481480
At the top of the rankings, there’s probably not a lot of consequences for the losses, but here’s a quick look at how it might influence the unranked teams.
The Horned Frogs have two daunting games remaining against Kansas and a road bout with West Virginia, but Saturday’s victory should solidify their berth in the final 64. Similarly, head coach Tom Izzo’s Spartans benefited greatly from the win over Purdue and have all but been handed their ticket to the dance.
Colorado isn’t projected to make an appearance in the March Madness tournament unless the Buffaloes go on a deep run in the Pac-12 Conference Tournament.
Pro Betting Recap
Here’s a look at the numbers from the weekend from the NBA and NHL.
NBA
On the hard court, favorites went 15-9 straight up and 13-11 ATS, and it’s worth highlighting that the underdogs covered five of eight games on Sunday. We’ve seen this consistently over the past few weeks, as bookmakers make adjustments and tighten their lines with bettors often chasing favorites.
The total went over the number in 14 of 25 games..
Notable upsets:
Pistons (+10.5) over Hornets
Pacers (+9.5) over Celtics
Nets (+9.5) over Bucks
Thunder (+8) over Pacers
Pelicans (+6.5) over Suns
NHL
Favorites had a dominant weekend on the ice going 18-5, but the score went under the number in 14 of 25 games with a push between Edmonton and Florida on Saturday.
Notable upsets:
Coyotes (+225) over Golden Knights
Oilers (+180) over Panthers
3-3-3-3-4 to Victory
Sepp Straka won his first PGA Tour event Sunday at The Honda Classic hosted at the daunting PGA National. He also became the first ever Austrian to win on the PGA Tour.

The 28-year-old bomber paced the field in driving accuracy, shots-gained off-the-tee and birdied three of the final five holes to earn the one-shot victory over Shane Lowry.
Of course, perhaps the larger story Sunday was Daniel Berger giving away a five-shot lead and making just one putt longer than 29 inches in the final round.
Still, let's not take anything away from Straka. He played the notorious Bear Trap one-under par while also birding No. 14 and 18. For reference, Lowry finished the final five holes even par, and he only made a single birdie on the back nine.
Straka was anywhere from +14000 to +15000 to win The Honda Classic, and he’s also the sixth first-time winner on Tour this season. No wonder golf betting is soaring in popularity – where else can you find odds like those and see them cash?
