Tipsarevic with a lot more power on this surface. I think he'll force Ferrer into defensive mode for most of the match. I think Tipsy will be a lot more aggressive and if he's efficient it'll pay off.

#2Interesting match, Tipsarevic does have a slight power advantage, more aces and mph on serves. But both are groundstrokers and neither is overpowering or rely on power tennis to win matches.
Not sure if this match is bettable, but I think Ferrer has a significant edge. His style makes him very underrated. He is unexploitable, supremely conditioned and is a master at sequencing groundstroke rallies to a position where he has an advantage, generally relying on his forehand to finish the point.
He has played the big 4 frequently and better than anyone, many of his loses this year are to these elite players 7 out of 11 loses to the Big 4 this year. Once he gets past the first round of a tournament he either loses to the big 4 or wins the championchip as he has 5 titles this year.
He has a better record overall record and on hardcourts than Tip this year. While Ferrer never wows you, I expect him to grind out another win here. In meaningful matches his form has been too good recently, unless you name is Murray, Nadal, Djoker, or Federrer he seldom loses. About the only blemish recently was his loss to Kei Nishi.... at the Olympics and the best of 5 set format suits his conditioning perfectly. He is better rested for this one as well.
He is cleanly the 5th best player in the world, has beaten and played tougher opponents than Tips this year, he pushed Murray hard in the semi's at Wimbledon. He is soo consistent in these big events and soo hard to beat unless you have the vicious power and angled ground strokes of the big 4.
I will probably pass unless I can find Ferrer closer to -200. I may wake up and bet this one though. Just too hard not to recognize how well Ferrer plays. I cannot see what Tips would do to beat him. Basically ferrer either tanks a tounrney in the first round(rare) or goes until he meets one of the elites and always plays a game match. His record against non top 4 players in major tournaments is ridiculously good, while Tips has alot more less quality losses blemishing his record. Tips lost to Gasquet I believe in straights at the Australian hard courts, who Ferrer has handled relatively easy a couple of times this year including his last match. Not much recent history between these two, think ferrer is 2-1 overall 1-0 on hard, but they haven't met in years.Comment -

#4Ferrer finished his match early on Tuesday and Tips finished his match late yesterday. Do you think this will have any effect on the outcome? Tennis players love routine, and this may throw Tips off. Also, he may come out a bit sluggish considering he had less than 24 hours rest between matches.Comment -

Your right on alot of points. I do think Tipsy has come a long ways since Aussy open tho. Ferrerdidnt look great against Hewitt. When Ferrer played Gasquet last match, Ferrer could have easily lost the fist 2 sets. Tough match to bet. Ferrer could be extra motivated that Federer is now gone.Comment -

#7Tipsy always disappoints about this stage of a major tourney - look at Aus Open. All he's beaten here at the US are a bunch of scrubs, I expect he'll probably take a set maybe push it to five but its ferrer or nothing in this match IMO.Comment -

#10Said it somewhere else, Tipsarevic needs to get cheap points off-serve or he's dead meat. I am interested to see if Tipsarevic is more motivated a lot today because of him retiring last year against Djokovic at this stage in a match he had a legit shot to win at before retiring with a knee or hamstring injury. In that one he beat Djokovic in a breaker, lost a 2nd set breaker and then the injury took its toll as he got bageled and was on his way to eating another bagel perhaps in the 4th. That match was interesting because Tipsarevic claims he retired to avoid more wear on the injury because Davis Cup play was coming up soon after. He proved he could go toe to toe with the best at the biggest stage in that one - whether the injury thing was legit or part Serb on Serb lovin' ... who knows ... I don't think he's going to get blown off court and I have a future riding with him to win this quarter, so I am pulling for him. I still think though that if his 1st serve isn't getting in enough and winning or setting up easy points, Ferrer will eat him up over the course of a best of five.
Obviously a big deal for both guys as they both never know how many shots they will get at making a semifinal. Ferrer is consistently getting more of those opps - but he's not a young player nor is Tipsarevic, so it's a large, large pride match for both IMO. I hope it lives up to the hype that the two player's games should bring to the match.Comment -
