    Aussie Open Dartboard...
Sup gents... Figured I'd start putting my mouth where my money is and start a thread. I've been playing tennis since I was 4 years old, worked as a pro for 10 years and was recruited to play in college but directed my "talents" towards bball. What does that mean in terms of gambling....? Nothing other than I know a thing or two about the sport and its players.

The Aussie is certainly one of the tougher GS's to cap. First one of the year and you sort of wonder who's who after a lot of players were unwinding in the closing months of 2014. Many can succumb to drastic changes in climate, time zone, etc when they come to Australia to play after sitting in their home countries/states for some time.

I made a few wagers in the early stages but nothing worth noting. A couple wins and a let down by Rosol last night cost me a little. I'm sitting plus money, but we're talking an insignificant amount, so let's dive in with my plays today...

My first play for tonight is Paolo Lorenzi +375 for 1 unit (100$). Yes, he's old(er), but the 64th ranked 180lb right hander from Italy can play, and he's playing some of his better tennis through 2014 and now into 2015 with a very nice and surprising straight set win over Dolgopolov. Yes, Pospisil is the younger player, but Lorenzi is quick and agile for his age and I see a good matchup here. I like riding Lorenzi's confidence into this match, especially after Vasek had to grind it out against Sam Querrey in the first round. It's a long shot, but there is a ton of value in that line here...

Second play is Jerzy Janowicz +192 for 1 unit (100$). Simply put, Monfils is a scatterbrain, much likely to be a little more out of shape early in the tennis year, as you see him typically surge late. I just don't see him going deep in this tournament. He pulled a typical Monfils in round 1....waking up after dropping the first 2 sets and playing better tennis. If he gets down early against a young Janowicz, he'll be toast.

Last posted play for today is Jarkko Neimenin -142 for 1 unit (142$ to win 100). Neimenin is playing some solid tennis to start the new year and I think he surges past the second round at the Aussie for the first time in 2015. I find Matthias Bachinger to be an inferior opponent and the lefty (Niemenin) is going to give this right handed German some trouble on serve. I find a lot of value in that line sitting below 150. Both players will be fresh after playing relatively short matches in round 1. Bach has the age advantage but Neimenin can easily overpower him.

Was also eyeing Marcel Granollers at plus money but Gilles is really tough. Not sure if I'll play it or not. Feel free to comment on the above. I know some may seem like a shot in the dark but in the first GS of the year, rankings can typically mean very little. Upsets can and will absolutely happen, especially as we weed out the first couple rounds. Now's the time to take some shots and see what happens.

Input on other plays is greatly appreciated!

BOL to all on your plays.

I can"t agree with your statements about Paolo. Lorenzi and nice surprising win over Dolgopolov in straight sets?? really wow, amazing.. Did you watch it? Do you understand that Alexandr was injured? He pulled out of Kooyong exhibition final because of knee injury.. Lorenzi is crap of the player on hard, he is old and challenger level player. He could may be get a set vs Vasek but that"s all. Pospisil should and will beat him without problems.

I agree with what you"ve told about Nieminen and i think that Jano vs Monfils is the best bet OVER 3 SETS

I agree with your plays, I do think the safer play was the over in the Lorenzi match.

Do you play WTA?, was curious on your thoughts on Vika vs Caro.

Was eyeing this one as well and it's tough. Caroline CAN beat Azarenka, but Vika has the experience and she's a 2 time Aussie champion and she looks really fresh after a rough 2014. I don't think Caroline is a champion quite yet... Not here. I see her getting her first GS at the US Open.

I keep coming back to this match and I lean Vika but it's probably a no play for me...

I like Caroline in this match - not only does she own Aza h2h, but I still don't think Aza is quite back to 100% just yet. BOL if you have a wager in this match (unless it's on Aza lol)!

Thanks for your picks and analysis buddy! Looking forward to future plays and discussion

            2-1 +192

Thanks Monfils for doing exactly what I thought you'd do... Lorenzi with the tease and the first set win but certainly overmatched by a much younger and stronger player in Pospisil.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I wish I had pulled the trigger on Azarenka. My gut was telling me she's poised to climb back to the top, or close to it. Keep an eye on her moving forward in this tourney. Vegas could leave us some nice value on her when she faces Strycova.

I have 2 plays for today:

Viktor Troicki +345 for 1 Unit (100 to win $345) I know it's a stretch but I think Viktor will give Tomas a run for his money. I don't know why but I feel like Viktor could make a little stretch in this tourney. This one is a big one today, and I feel there is a lot of value in that line. Thought it would be in the 2's rather than the 3's

Ekaterina Makarova -131 (131$ to win 100)Not much to say here other than I believe Makarova is better and more seasoned than her counterpart, Pliskova. Karo might be 4 years younger but I don't see her hanging here. I hope I'm right!

BOL to all on their plays!

RS, did you mean you like Troicki at +345? Just confusing because you mentioned liking Berdych, but the line for this match is the opposite - Berdych is the huge favorite and Troicki is the dog for this one!

By the way, I apologize for possibly being a factor in steering you away from Aza last night - from the limited times I've seen her this year it didn't seem like she was quite where she needs to be, but it's clear she has extra motivation for this major (probably more than any of the other ones), and she is clearly hungry and eager to prove herself once again, as someone pointed out in another thread.

Anyway, good job last night, and BOL on these and any other plays for the day my friend!

Lol! That's what happens when I wake up and post at 630am. Yes the play is Troicki. Thank you for catching that and my apologies for the confusion.

Also no apology necessary on Aza. No one talks me off of plays. I liked Aza but felt that match could've gone either way. I'd rather be confident to lay money vs flipping a coin.

Appreciate the kind words. It's unfortunate my book doesn't have totals or spreads. Otherwise, I'd be all over totals as I feel they are much easier to gauge in certain matchups. If you care for my opinion on a play, please don't hesitate to ask. Just like me, however, never let someone talk you off of a play. If you are confident and you have your reasons, you lay your money. No matter what anyone tells you.

man, ya gotta get a book with totals. or several books so set totals and gm totals are available to ya.. def feel like those are easier at times. especially early on for me when i dont know half the damn players! i can still kinda look at lines and figure out if a match has strong potential for longer points and/or sets!

Banker I've been well thanks for asking! Hope the same for you. Things have been great personally. In the gambling world I'm trying to find my strides in college bball. Seems like a lot of folks are in the same boat. I took a hiatus after literally giving back the seasons winnings during last years march madness. I know that tourney did some folks well and most folks dirty.

I lurk in there a lot and I've def perused your daily threads and appreciate your insight so please keep at it.

I'll post from time to time and I'm liking this Aussie Open so figured I'd make a thread to track some of these plays. We'll see if I end up at plus money. I like to roll the dice in tennis and take the dogs. I feel like Vegas has trouble capping some of these matchups so they throw a line out there waiting for us to bite on a heavy fav and boom, an "upset."

Glad we both ended in the black on the Monfils match. He is a nut and given the right matchup, there's always extreme value in certain opponents. He honestly shouldn't have made it past the first rd but as always he found a way to compose himself. Glad I waited the extra round to bite...

                        Keep at it and BOL

Haha glad you have faith. I'll do my best. Hope we can walk away in the black.

You're right in that early rounds can be extremely tough to gauge. That's why although I might go out on the limb on a plus 300 play, it's because I truly feel that guy has a shot and it's worth losing 100$ for the chance to win over 300 or over 200...

Keep an eye on the weather as well. It's been mild there with weather heating up yesterday. These matches are almost back to back so when someone plays a marathon, fatigue is a huge factor.

Makarova took care of biz, but unfortunately, so did Berdych. Not my best dart by any means... It's ok, let's move on.

Pretty wild Fed dropping so early... Never saw that coming. Watching playback of the match it's as if he didn't care. Maybe he was a little burned out from his close of 2014? Maybe he's just truly showing his age, which I hate to even say... I wonder how much importance Fed places on the Aussie, being it's the opener of the GS season. Sucks to see him go so early, being he is my all tame favorite champion.

My first upcoming play is Camilla Giorgi +195 for 1 unit (100 to win 195$). Both sides of this matchup have been playing well. Camilla hasn't proven much in her short professional career, but she could make a few waves if she can find a way to send home another top 20 opponent and move on. Temps and humidity are on the rise in Melbourne, so I give the edge to the MUCH younger Giorgi. I would've liked to see this number over 200, but it's close enough so I find it has good value among a lot of other plays on the board.

Second play for now is Timea Bacsinszky +160 for 1 unit (100 to win 160$). This one feels evenly matched to me. I just see the smaller more speedy Timea giving Mugu some trouble here. Confidence has to be riding high through 2 rounds of singles and there's no longer a doubles distraction for Timea, so I think she'll give it her all to stick around.

I'm eyeing one more play on the men's side. Things get interesting now that the seeded start meeting each other. If I decide to play, I will post.

LOL! Leet that's definitely one of the matches I'm eyeing... Janowicz is just such a fukkin nut and after a long battle with Monfils I almost feel like he might come into this match with a little too much confidence.

Here's the breakdown... They both have played played 9 sets/90 games through the first 2 rounds. Sight edge on serve goes to Jerzy in terms of % in and points won on first serve. The edge on aces goes slightly to Lopez. This is a big service matchup. I hate the Vegas has so much confidence in the 44th ranked Jerzy against the 14th ranked Lopez. That line at -200 has my finger on the trigger but I can't pull.

It's the above or riding Simon to upset Ferrer. Ferrer is a guy who plays so hard and fast, he can absolutely run out of gas. If the hard hitting Canadian is on his game, it will be trouble for David.

I'll make my mind up and post sooner or later.

Youth... I know it's a stretch but Venus is not going much further in this tournament. It feels like her time to exit and she would do it to a younger up and comer who really has nothing to lose playing a big name like Venus.

You see it all the time... Folks who play the big names give them a run for their money, playing unreal tennis. It would happen to me personally all the time when I used to play. If you went into a match knowing you weren't "supposed" to win, you played with zero weight on your shoulders.

It's a ballsy play. If I can pick a stronger of the two, it's absolutely Bacsinszky.

                                                3-4 (.08)

What a deflating night... I can tell you first hand, one of the hardest things to do is close out a match. Giorgi was up 4-2 in the second set and had Venus sitting 0-40. If she wins that game....blouses. Instead, Venus crawls back in and wins that game. I knew right then and there the younger more inexperienced Giorgi was going to have trouble keeping composure and keeping loose and closing the match. Once Venus won the second set, I knew it was over.

In terms of Bacsinszky, not sure what happened there as it wasn't televised. From the scoreline, it seems both players adjusted inter match, but Begu simply did it better...

I've eyed some of the upcoming match ups and I really like Nadal. They have him at (300) against Anderson. Nadal can win this tournament. I'm not sold on any ill health on his part. Nadal plays tough when he plays. If he can't go, he won't.

I'm out and about all day today and will be focusing heavily on coll bball. Very very strong lean on Nadal tonight if you want my opinion on a play.

*if you're feeling dangerous throw a unit on Peng against Sharapova.
