Might be fortunate if you did not bet this. I still think Djokovic mentally right now is pretty fragile from his real life grind. He talked and walked a pretty good game about really wanting to be keyed in this week to win, but that 2nd set shows a pretty big lack of focus and how it can kill you in a short period of time. He had a chance to roll to an easy straight sets win and totally lost it late in the set.

He might close out the W, but he's making his life much harder.

I only got to watch the end of the match but it looked like Joker was content to play loopy topsin paddy cakes with Simon for 20-30 shot points. Any reason (beyond the wind) he wasn't more aggressive? He looks like a turd covered in bird hair right now.

I don't think so, unless he's hiding an injury still. But I mean he looked solid in the 1st and half way into the 2nd and then just lost it for like four games and then struggled a little early in the 3rd to get his focus back. I think the plus for him this week is that Robredo or Querrey is not likely going to be in beast mode like Tsonga was last week for his next match.

I mean Simon can make anyone look blah because he just wants to sit there in rallies and force you to get tired and make an error, but Djokovic was controlling him fine for a while.

i give simon credit for being much more resistant to self-sabotage than many of his higher-ranked compatriots...

you generally have to beat simon...he doesn't just self-destruct like monfils, ERV, Paire, Benneteau (fill in the frog you love to hate the most...going all the way up to gasquet, tsonga)

but eagles pretty much hit the nail on the head about his limitations...best that an in-form simon can do is patty-cake/grind up or down to his competition...i remember him not long ago winning an amazing 5-hour/5 set GS match thatt went something like 20-18 in set-5...against...Brands

lotsa the french guys have great skill sets and weak minds...simon wired the other way...won't melt-down and give away matches but not talented enough to just go out and take them with authority either

I mean in July, the guy grinded through to win Wimbledon and then got married like ten days later. You figure some sort of honeymoon/break and then he has to quickly flip it around and start up tennis again. I don't think there's any sort of shenanigans with his wife. I think they've been together basically just about since he turned pro. I think 8-9 years.

The baby I don't think is due until like November maybe, they haven't really said the date - just most did the math that he announced the pregnancy back in February, so figure 8-9 months so the kid will be popping within another couple months. I'm not a parent myself, but I have to imagine any dude who is going to be a Dad for the first time is preoccupied as fukk with that occurrence. The marriage might have made everything "real" ... so I don't know. His price would be too short for me anyway, but I'm not certain I would want to back him for futures in the USO.

He may find his focus for two weeks and win, but I've got to see something from him this week that would indicate he is capable.

I think Fed or Joker actually might have a decent shot. Maybe even a Cilic or dimatov. I think alot will be determined by how draws open up for each guy. Too me the field is closing in on the top 4. Good players might not lose, but if your going 4 sets each match it will take its toll down the line. I dont think anyone will have an easy run to winning it unless they do get lucky and other good players get knocked out early that they would of faced later in the draw.

Dimi also had a pretty nice A/O that has me liking him on hard. He also seems to have grown up and doesnt throw temper tantrums anymore. Gulbis not so much
