Mathieu : "It's not clay, it's hard court"
for those who can read french http://www.tennisactu.net/news-itw-p...dur-26971.html (or use a translator)

Basically Mathieu says conditions are very fast, there are no rallies.
Yesterday he struggled hard to return Cilic serves.

He says: in Madrid it's like 2 different tournaments at the same place, those who play with roof and those who play outdoors.
Even morning and night are totally different conditions.
"You'll see in Roma next week, results will be totally different." says Mathieu

Roland Garros and Madrid 's surfaces have nothing to do with each other.

now i understand why Matosevic was able to play well here
Bautista crushing Robredo, Sijsling beating Haas, Janowicz playing a decent match

Jerzy actually sucks on hard and is good on clay but apart from that, agree with everything else and it's definitely been fast compared to other clay surfaces.

I still like Nishi, Agut, and Gulbis but probably a little less

Still 3 are better on faster courts than clay.

Raonic is mentally unstable. Cilic does not have the best backhand and has a tough opponent. Agut should beat Kubot in the end

indeed so i guess conditions suited Janowicz, clay but fast clay = good for him.
Did he lose like 6 or 7 matches in a row now ? wow that's tough, i dont particularly like him but sad to see

Mathieu might have complained because he sucks on both surfaces.

But seriously, I don't buy into his reasoning much. Bookies have scouts there at the matches and if this was the case, all the big servers like Raonic and Isner would not be such underdogs today. The red dust makes the balls heavier as the match progresses thus it makes harder to serve aces and winners. You'll still have to work hard for the points.
