Most likely winners are Argentina as Spain are missing Nadal.

My opinion is No, but that's just me.
Spain will attend with their reserves, aside from Nadal, Robredo, Ferrero, Moya and Almagro all refused to play due to fatigue, injury, preparation for next year...So you have Spain playing with Verdasco, Lopez, Ferrer and Granollers.
Argentina on the other hand, will take part with their A-team, Nalbandian, Del Potro, Acasuso and Calleri.
Plus they have home advantage plus they play indoors, which Nalbandian and Del Potro can handle a lot better than Ferrer or Granollers.
The only threat for me is, if Verdasco finds his a-game, he could challenge both Nalbandian and Del Potro, but besides that I don't see any chances for Spain, except winning the doubles.
Argentina has the home advantage, they have the better players in better form, the surface is suiting the top two a lot better, than Spain's players (except maybe Lopez).
The only advantage that Spain has is that they have the better doubles players and maybe they can hope that Argentina will underestimate them.
The fact that most of Spain's top players didn't want to play makes me believe that most of them have already given up even before the series starts.
If Argentina doesn't win this, this could be THE davis cup choke.

Robredo is out too. However, Lopez is no mug on a fast indoors court, while Ferrer plays his guts out in Davis Cup even if he's off form (see the win against Roddick). Verdasco can beat anyone on his day, although the pressure of a home town crowd will probably get to him. It's no lock, given Nalbandian isn't the most consistent player around.
Still, prices probably fair.

That's true, but given his davis cup singles record (16-4) you can say the same about Nalbandian you said with Ferrer.
Ferrer's victory against Roddick was on clay, which obviously isn't Roddick's favorite surface plus he had home advantage plus his favorite surface and Roddick still owned him two sets before he folded. Ferrer on indoors just isn't that good as on clay imo. Plus his un-form plus Nalbandian's plus Del Potro's (recovered) form.
Well, I don't see Spain winning any matches on the first day (if Argentina starts with the big 2), no matter which player will play on their side. But that's however just my opinion.
I wanna add, maybe I overlooked something. It's just that the home advantage makes me believe that Argentina will win. Nalbandian could choke under pressure, but I dunno...that's just too hypothetical for me, he showed some good form lately and his davis cup record is impressive, my brain says all the way Argentina despite the odds.

Sure sure, but frankly Ferrer lately winning a match on any surface, against any top100 player is a miracle - let alone a top10 guy like Roddick. The fact he could lift his form that much says something imo.
Don't get me wrong, I lumped heavily on Argentina when the Nadal news came out at -160ish. Don't think I'd risk it with current prices though.

No, I was just interested in some profound opinions, too bad so few people post here, it's always good to hear some discussion. But you're right, the odds are pretty much untouchable right now. I got them at -152 and -333 and it's now -500. And it's dropping and dropping. Could be interesting to see how they will end up, -1000 would be bizarre.
Only way you could possible wager on this now is if you have a book that does each match and not the overall winner. The ship sailed on value betting for this as soon as Nadal said he was out.
