How to find your Local Sports Book

I need help finding a local sports bookie because im tired of betting online. it seems like every online site is the same when delivering payouts. i have 3 accounts and i am tired of all of them. wanted to find someone who is trustworthy, organized, business oriented and friendly. I dont wanna go around and ask that seems shady. how do i find someone i can trust.

I would much rather play with a reputable book than a local. I have had the same local for 18 years and I always feel more safe betting online than with him. If you are having trouble with payouts you probably need a new book.

You usually get better odds online then you would a local. Are you a small player or large?

    5dimes for small
    Bookmaker for large

I dont really think there is a need to go to a local bookie when there is so much else out there thats safer for you.

May I ask what online books you are playing at now that you feel unsafe?

Lot's of misconceptions, locals are getting more competitive on the vig, and nobody but rookies accept sucker lines...the line is the line is the line and is known the world over

Go to your local casino. Make your way to the bar. You will find the info you need there if you discreetly and casually bring up the subject. That is how I found my local. Been dealing with him only for 7 months or so but Everything is gravy. I make all my large bets thru him now. Online is a hassle for large bets. I still use my trusted books like 5dimes, betjamaica and greek for small plays but I understand your feeling regarding betting offshore. I am kind of moving away from it myself. Why should we have to jump thru hoops and wait to get paid our own money.

When I was in college going to the campus, I once read in the new york times paper a couple of years ago that the cops busted a bookie which also ran a website with over 10,000 customers. He is took hundred of thousands of dollars from his home where he is operating. So most local wont trust new people thinking that they can be cops.

This is a while back, but when I was growing up one of my uncles was a bookie. Small town, but he made some money at it I learned later. He didn't get married until later in life and his wife died before him. He owned a small bar - that's where he did his business from. He was a real good guy. Actually he won a local golf tournament the day I was born. I have the trophy he got for that.

Well, he got prostate cancer and he went through chemo and all that, but it got to the point where they let him out of the hospital because there was nothing left to do and so basically he could die at home. His wife had already passed at that time so my mother and one of my aunt's took care of him at his house. For the last several weeks before the end at least one and many times both of them slept in one of my uncle's spare bedrooms or on one of his couchs. After one of the nights where both my aunt and my mom stayed at his house my mother said to my aunt "I finally got to sleep last night, but that pillow on the couch was really bad." My aunt replied, "Do you know what the pillow is stuffed with?". My mom didn't know what my aunt meant and she went and unzipped the pillow. Inside the pillow it didn't have any foam or feathers -- it was filled with dollar bills -- $5, $10, $20, $50, $100. Apparently that pillow was worth quite a few bucks. My Mom thought that was hilarious. Neither my mom or my aunt took off with the pillow even though they easily could have considering my uncle's condition -- he died just a few days later.

My uncle had a step daughter (she was an ass) , but I don't think my mom or aunt ever told her about the pillow. Who knows - there could have been other $ hidden. The step daughter sold the house and all the belongings -- I sure wish I had been at that garage sale and bought that pillow.

Well that's my story about my uncle the bookie. I hope I didn't clog up this thread too much, but with a lot of things getting older sucks. You can't rewind the clock, but with our memories I guess we can a little bit.

I always post up with my locals. Helps me sleep better at night. BTW, I had 2 of my old locals call me about the state of the industry. One for sure is getting back in. Lots of the guys(locals) are going the PPH route and getting competitive on the vig. I'm down to one online book and that may go after baseball. Back to vanilla lines and -110 for me. I feel bad for the american bonus whores and scalpers that have to carry huge balances to make significant $$$. This is a f'n nightmare. Have a good friend who got grandfathered in at pinny, who bonus whores for a living...says it's getting harder every month for us yanks.
