Dealing Different Lines Over the Phone? 5Dimes
I called up 5Dimes yesterday at about 6:20pm PST to place a phone wager on college hoops. I wanted UCSB +7.5 against Washington U. BTW, I'm a UCSB alum so it was a bit of a homer bet, admittedly. However, I also thought Washington was a bit overrated here in what essentially a 50/50 game. UC Santa Barbara was up at the half so I really liked my position at that point. Anyway, my concern is this. I was following this line somewhat yesterday, and it seemed it was at 7.5/8 for the most part. When I called 5Dimes to place the bet, I told the dude give me a c-note on UCSB +7.5. He said the line had moved to 7. I wavered and even pondered buying an extra half point, but in the end went with the +7. It turns out Santa Barbara botched their halftime lead and went on to lose the game outright by exactly 7 points, cancelling my wager.

Is there any way to know the line 5Dimes had on their website at the time I placed my phone wager? Do books sometimes deal different lines over the phone? taking advantage of what bet the player wants to make. For example, if you tell the operator you want Yankees moneyline he could, forseeably, tax you a bit more juice, knowing full well you're probably gonna still make the bet. You know what I mean? Maybe I'm just paranoid but you gotta watch your a$$ in this sportsbook climate lest they stick it in. If it's discovered that the CSR shade sheisted me out of half a point, can the wager be re-graded as a Win? Thanks for any and all help/info.

5dimes reps will tell you what the screen in front of them says when they log into your account.

Im sure there are some books that will try to tax. 5dimes is not one of them.

Yes always ask for the line first.

Thanks. I usually do ask for the line first so as to prevent this sort of thing.

Kisado, it looks like they are correct. The game was -7 until 9:29 EST (6:29 PST). At 6:29 your time it went back to -7.5 and stayed there until the start of the game. As history, at 3:09 your time the game was -8, then at 4:09 your time it went to -7.5, and at 5:20 PST it went to -7 and stayed there until 6:29 PST, when it went back up to -7.5. So if you called before 6:29 your time (PST) the number would have been 7. You missed the hook by about 10 minutes, because after 6:29 your time it remained at -7.5 until the game tipped off. So they did not take advantage of you. You just suffered from bad timing.
