Where to cash a check besides the bank?
If I decide not to deposit my check at the bank, where would I able to cash it out at? And what's the highest amount of cash would them money order check stores allow?

Good question and you are referring to within the US and cashing International checks, correct? I have asked a few check cashing places this question and none said they would cash an International check so far. Maybe someone else will give more information.

I thought you were smarter than that Durrito.

Canada became the 59th state in 1894.

The problem with international cheques is they have to be sent to an intermediary or the originating bank for verification, thus I would be surprised if anyone except a bank where you have a funded account would cash them as they would be taking a huge risk on the check being returned unpaid.

You have to deposit the checks you get from the sportsbooks. I have tried cashing them and trust me most of the time it wont work.

When I called CS of one of the A+ books after a failed cashing attempt at the bank the processor was using, a manager said to always deposit the checks and never try to cash them. There is a process the check has to go through that is not picked up even when trying to cash the check at the bank the funds are drawn on.

Then be prepared to wait a couple of weeks to 3 weeks to make sure the check does not bounce. Or be impatient, get your money, spend it, and get hit with about $1000 of NSF fees if the check bounces.

I was thinking of starting a similar thread, specifically as it relates to cashing checks at Moneymart, be it here (Canada) or the U.S. I recently received a check via Moneybookers and rather wait the 15 or so business days for it to clear at TD Bank, I'm considering cashing it at the nearest Moneymart and just eating the service fee.

Anybody have any experience with them? As in, would they even cash it in the first place.....

I am a manager of a check cashing store in Philadelphia.

I have guys that come here and I'll cash anything they bring in because I know if it comes back they will make good on it.

Now if someone comes in off the street and brings in a check from out of the US the chances of me cashing it are small. There is a ton of fake cashiers checks going around (lottery scams, work from home scams etc.)

It isn't worth the risk. I have cashed a poker check at a check cashing store once but I think it was drawn on a U.S bank.

If anyone does use this service the going rate for check cashing is 1.5%. I would go 2% but after that it is a rip off and try to go some where else. Shop around.

Ace cash express has cashed some for me before, its just a hassle cause they have to make a zillion phone calls it seems, they will ask what it is for, i just tell them i buy and sell on ebay and make up some story that someone bought something from me, i also request my payouts to be in a off number not some big whole number, like $420 instead of $400 or $450. but the fees are like 6-7%. your better off just depositing it in your bank at the ATM machine and just wait.

This is why most people think that check cashing places are scum. 7% is a ****ing scam. We charge 1.5% bottomline. Some of the high volume customers get 1%.

Some places let the cashiers charge whatever they want and the owners give a kick back to the teller so they are looking to rape you as soon as you walk in. My boss has two check places and looking for a third because the he is stealing customers away from the big chains that are ripping people off. If you go back to that place and try to cash a similar check (from the same place) don't fall for the 7%. The risk is lower so the fee should be reduced.
