    Matchbook API

I e-mailed Matchbook about their API and they asked what I intended to do with it. Apparently my answer was the wrong one because I never heard back... that was about a month ago. What's the secret to getting access to their API?

Just make sure you note that you will be using it to place bets. The more the better, they want to add liquidity to the markets.

That's what I thought. I said that I occasionally miss bets because I'm at work, so I'd like to write a program to make the bets for me. What did you tell them?

Here's an update -- I'm not liking Matchbook much right now. When this happened a month or so ago I took all my money out of my account because I was angry with them.

So today at 12:26 PM EST I e-mailed the API folks and told them I took my money out of their book since I never heard back. I got a reply from Maurice Clancy at 12:40 EST saying they'd give me the API info as soon as I fund my account. I funded my account at 12:45 EST and immediately e-mailed Maurice Clancy, stating that my account had been funded. It is now 4:09 EST and I have still not heard back from anyone at Matchbook. I have e-mailed Maurice Clancy twice since then.

Interesting how they were so quick to respond when they wanted me to fund my account, but now that I have they couldn't care less.

Fwiw, I found they usually took a day to get back to me, and it was normally in the wee hours of the night/morning

An update: Maurice replied at 4:52 AM EST with the API info.

EDIT: Can a mod move this to the Sportsbook forum please? I just realized I started it in the wrong forum.

Interesting that they are not given all access. I wonder if one person just reviews the requests and makes a judgement on a case by case basis or if they have an actual policy?

Do they really give you the web API for placing bets? Can you use it to display all current lines and bets etc? That would be great.

Yes, you can use the API to make, edit and cancel bets as well as get current odds and liquidity for each game's available markets (totals, ML, etc). It isn't the greatest API out there, but it's pretty handy.

    So sycoogtit,

If one knew how to program they could get access to the API and create a program to automatically accept offers that they are looking for?

For example if I left the house and I wanted odds of say celtics -3 +105, the program could accept the wager for me if it came up while I was gone?

You got it, but if the spread is already what you want then you can make an offer at whatever odds you want without using the API.

It took a while to figure it out, but I actually made a couple wagers with it tonight.

How could this be utilized for somebody who has lots of bets he needs to wait for a certain price to get in but has problems when not by a computer should the opportunity to take a line at a that price come up??????

Smart phone just is not cutting it

Are you allowed to share the API to others?

If the spread isn't what you want (i.e. it's -3.5 and you're looking for -3) then you'll need to write a program to look for alternate lines when they come up. If the spread is already what you want, then you can make an offer at the price you're willing to pay (+105 for $100) and Matchbook will try to get a match for you until the contest starts.

No, you'll need to e-mail them and ask for it.
