BOL Dead Heat Rule in Golf
    BOL took the wager 100 / 4 = 25 * 0dds for a loss deducted from my balance.

In the history, the ticket shows the regular payout (91) / 4 for a + 22.75

    Ticket paid 122.75 graded a WIN. But 52.27 was deducted from my balance. 25 * (.9091) -100

1st time for me, 4 way tie, so had never had the dead heat rule applied before.
Seems like the +22.75 would be reasonable, but deducting for a win?
Yeah I am corresponding with them via email.

And thats a winn, er LOSER. Graded a win, but Dead Heat rule takes the stake and divide by the # in the dead heat. BOL changed the history, they were showing a minimal profit, basically a push, but they changed it after I pointed it out. But they don't show the math and you have to figure that out and apply to your balance. Great book, no doubt, but w many outs i usually find better numbers and have just been using for my Top 10 golf bet. Obviously you have to have high odds here, ties LOSE otherwise. So much for the Top10 covering my long shots.

Just realized BOL doesn't have a daily balance history, only book I know like that. Never had a problem, jus sayin

From your post I'm assuming you staked $100 on -110 odds and there was a 4-way tie with your choice being one of those 4.

In that case, then the correct payout for you would indeed be -$52.27. If you got BetOnline to give you some money back, then either you successfully fooled them or they just thought it was easier to give you a little money and not have to deal with you anymore.

This is the way dead heat works. You won 1/4th of your stake:
      $25 * (0.9091) = $22.75

And you lost 34ths of your stake:
      -$75

Dead heat is always a risk when you are betting on players with low odds. Coming out with a net loss is a possibility if they tie.

Why is it done this way? Because the odds you got were for your pick to be the sole winner. Every market is priced to have 1 winner. If there are 4 winners, then the odds would have been wrong. So you have to split your stake into wins and losses to make the market come out whole.

Thanks....as you can see from my above post I figured it out. Even posted exactly what you said about the odds. Much appreciated though.

Got it. I was a little confused as to what your second post was saying, which is why I wrote it out, to be clear what should be expected in this situation.

Was an either or, I did all the math in post 1. BOL actually showed on the ticket in the history the 91 winning profit / 4,
paying 122.75. But then they deducted the 52.25 from the balance. They erased the profit part after I pointed it out /asked them about it. Their email even said I was paid the 122.75. So evidently I was not the only one confused! No biggie, I had Scottie S at 2521 to win, of course I didn't bet enough on it, but made a little profit. Live and learn they say.

FWIW, Heritage gives you the full price on all ties. However, bets are all-in so scratches lose. Odds are typically better at Heritage too, but limits are low ($50 for me). All considered, Heritage is a better out for small time golf bettors.
