Surely it helps you to protect your account if you do , genrally people who don't want to send are shady people looking to open multiple accounts

I don't understand this. I use SBO a lot for soccer and don't recall any such requests other than normal ID verification when I first joined.

That's unusual. To be asked for ID before they will take your money.

A lot of people have posted complaining that books should act this way in the past.
