half Europe has same problem as US citizens, and reason is financial crisis right now, so governments trying to find new ways to fund their budget. Countries like Turkey, France, Belgium, Denmark and others are all in same situation. More to come.

I think sports online gambling is fine as long as the books are smart about things and no new laws come around. Eventually the pendulum will start swinging back in our favor. It might take a while for things to get better but I don't see things getting much worse at this point.

They are fine up to the point when they use shady processors disguising gaming purchases as Jewelery or Pet food purchases. Then they have issues that FBI can go after such as wire fraud and Money laundering. That's the biggest reason poker got taken down and offshore books do the same and even worse. I personally think this targeting is to clear out the non regulated sites and will pave the way for the US to regulate poker and other online gaming and gain revenue via tax.

None of the doomsdayers want to explain just how the US will get rid of it. The issue in the past has always been shady books that do their operating/processing inside the country, or with bad third party processors. If an offshore book utilizes neither of those things, what can the US do?? Go after W|U or M|G?? Not a chance.

At least the apocalypse dingdongs have the Mayan calender to point at. Online gambling tweaks don't even have something like that to point to -- just the poker incident that isn't even all that related.

I think the key thing that is occuring is the U.S. is striking fear in operators. I play at 2 prominent online casino's every few months (fortune lounge group) and they e-mailed me notifying that because of the climate they are withdrawing from the US completely. What you are finding is that it simply is not worth the risk for larger gambling entities to continue offering services in this atmosphere. Another casino I play at has slashed limits for Americans, one can only assume it is because they have no way to pay out large sums of money.

Are sportsbooks next? who knows. I think most C.R. books will not be affected for the fact they are not regulated in any way shape or form. What will however happen is the government will continue to seize funds and shut down processors which will make larger books contemplate on whether the U.S. market it is really worth it. The largest reason if you read the indictment why all of this happened is blatent disregard for the UEIGA and they actually were not just disguising processing but they were paying off banks and supposedly owned their own... no U.S. sportsbook will ever enter that realm because they don't process the volume of transactions that the poker sites were processing.

Also, could they go after Mo|\|eygram and Wester|\| union? I could see ID verification or some type of hold on transactions sent to certain countries. Clearly the books that want to offer service to americans will continue to do so but I just know that all it will take is a few processors to be shut down or seized and for a book to take a few hundred thousand hit and a lot of books would just walk away without paying out players.

I am like a lot of people and have been gambling online since 2000 and in 11 years saw many services enter and leave U.S. customers but the climate that exists today is truly frightening for the fact that for the first time I feel that if I won a significant sum of money from a sportsbook or casino it would truly take months to pay off (30-40k). Perhaps in 3-4 weeks the environment will calm down and we will go another year or so without some major bust. I just know that in the past 3 days I have received no fewer than 30 e-mails from sportsbooks/casinos/poker sites pushing their services due to the poker bust and I would be willing to bet these are the type of sites that are going to be painting a rather large target on their backs.

    Just my 2 cents..

The reason is not a financial crisis, but you are right, there are only financial motivations to regulate the sports betting market. They want a piece of the cake. They are telling you they do this because they want to fight crime or protect you from gambling. But they only want to get money from the companies.

If enforcement continues to make sending money tougher, you might see online books employ more agents in us and operate on credit. (which several already do for larger players) But i don't think it will ever go away.

Key is for the sportsbooks to keep a low profile and for the owners to stay away from the US. Remember when Pinnacle got mentioned on an episode of the "Sopranos"?

It is safe. Poker had totally different dynamics than sports. You guys know that after Friday, books w/poker instantly received new customers because of the poker? They are booming right now.

Most of this country has no access to agents or bookies. They want to gamble. Demand will always find a supply.

    That right?

Ask the poker sites how the Department of Justice is treating them.

And online sportsbook affiliates have been drying up the past 4 months ... was not like this 3 years ago.

You might be a Democratic voter, which is fine, but in regards to what's going on today you should probably shut your ass.

Right, America the land of the "free."

Your freedoms have been going pretty fast since 911. Not only from the "wing-nut" Repubs, but also from the "liberal" Demos.

Let's pass some laws so we can get the terrorists and anyone else else who we might need to sort out.

I am worried about online gambling, but soon enough the government will realize it is an easy way to increase revenue.

Not in Canada anyway, most provinces have online gaming run by the government currently.

Repubs claim they want small government except for those trllions to keep you safe from the boogeyman in a cave in Pakistan, and keep your family safe from your own nasty gambling habit.

Demos will just give your money to everyone else but you.

Vote libertarian, people. They don't want your money and they don't care what you do in your own house.
