For those in the US, perhaps. Other countries are fine.
Today is the tomorrow we worried about yesterday.

betfair ladbrokes, all have shown they can thrive without the u.s, the government is very complex, remember the same saddam who was the enemy was shaking hands with rumsfeld in the 80's. So who know what this is all about , maybe get rid of those companies and then bring in a government run a poker site

Not at all. People want to gamble and the people will get it done regardless of their governments. The government is there to guide/lead the people. Believe it or not they don't control them, except in a dictatorship.

Not by a longshot. As long as there are gamblers, online gaming will exist.

Of course it will go on in some manner, way, shape, or form...But there's no question that the activities infrastructure has been damaged--even devastated. That means it will be harder to win because there will be fewer outs, and they'll be tighter, and getting paid is going to be a bigger hassle then ever.

It will end very soon just like the poker world did last week!!! We all thought that was safe too. Now so many peeps have thousands of dollars lost. I would not keep much money in any offshore book even if I lived outside US as if it gets targeted funds will be held up and maybe lost for good. Only books I would play at are legal ones that do not allow US citizens. Sure there are A+ books but if they get their assets and accounts frozen by US it will be bye bye to them all. It was just done to Poker last week so it can and will be done. Once they get rid of offshore unregulated the they will then most likely legalize and regulate it to state side legit company's........Beware

The landscape has been definitely changing for the worse.
Its so dam tough to win consistently as it is and then you add all these other problems on top of it and its becoming less and less worth it.
The industry might be heading for a pretty big decline

Not in the slightest, there is a whole world out there and Online Gambling is stronger than ever outside the US Market. Books in Europe have survived the last 5 years without US customers, so the recent happenings wont really affect them much anyway.
There is still a lot of dust to settle in terms of the US Market, and I really wouldnt be surprised to see further busts/restrictions put in place for American bettors which will make it harder and harder to play offshore, and for the foreseeable future I would suggest that you should be as careful as possible with any money in books and US-Facing books in particular...but the online industry in general (rest of the world) will continue to get by.

Then we will be worse. Who do you think will be paying the freight, the online books?
The golden era of the local bookie will begin again.

The US govt is empowering the mob again. Prohibition was a total failure and spawned the modern crime families. Now, people will turn to local bookies who are mob affiliated by choice or by threat. All this means $$$$$$$ for the mob.

You could replace the word gambling in this thread with the word universe and it would sound equally ridiculous . Nothing is over. In free world sun will rise tomorrow and adults are going to make decisions for themselves without letting government bureaucrats doing it for them . US is ****** maybe but then again- since when that is the news?

big difference here was online poker was flaunting there stuff in front of the goverment with there commercials and television Shows. Basicly giving the GOV the finger.
If you remember, online books were doing exactly the same thing until the Netteller incident. Then they shut their mouth and stopped the radio advertising and everything has calmed down.
regardless, sorting out just the poker side of this will take years...maybe then they will go after the books. Im personally not worried...for now
