Why do offshore spread values vary yet Vegas lines stay the same?
Diving into learning about EV and line values etc, came across a thread calculating advantages on beating the closing line and it talked about spread values closing at (example only) Team A +4.5 (-105) vs Team B (-115). I understand the total will always equal -220 total, but why do lines here in Vegas never do that on spreads?

I went back and looked at last weeks spread lines on some games, and every one in Vegas closed at -110 yet the same lines were either -105 or -115 offshore.

    Why is this?

Vegas would confuse the tourist with -115----105------120 even----offshore has many more players----more risk to manage

.Online books may keep an eye on the Vegas line, and stick close to it - but at the same time they have their own views and their own clientele to book to so would make adjustments according to what they want to lay, what they do lay or what they expect their clients to bet on. Also some books try to keep up with Vegas and are just slow to adjust to price moves.

Most online books keep an eye on one book and one book only, and that's pinnacle. Yes, some go out on their own and adjust, but if you think they give two shits about what lines Vegas has, you are mistaken.

Aren't some of the counter-intuitive lines offshore a result of a proactive defense against Wong teasers?

Also an internet book can get number hammered by a semi organized attack by multiple players simultaneously, however in Vegas there's a lot more time to adjust.
            Just a thought.

I can't comment on US sports as they are not really very popular over here, probably is pinnacle I'm not sure. However for main stream global sports there is only one "center of the Universe" that books revolve around and that is Betfair. No book can be as competitve as an exchange, never looked at vegas books but they probably work of min 5% over-round.

Right, it is a volume issue. Offshore houses can have huge volume. They usually are using Pinny or taking a consensus of 3 to 5 big houses and Pinny to set lines then start moving lines to fill the wheel. They also leave a certain amount of wise action on their sheets which they track closely to see where it is going and then move house lines accordingly with the wheels numbers under consideration. Some places that have super veteran line movers will just allow them to do what they want just because of their experience and consistent good moves over the years. There was a really good interview with a major lines man on the forum about this and Pinny about a year or two ago l will see if I can find it and put in a link...
