champions league takes the top teams of each country in a tournament. by far the most important club tournament in the world. uefa is for the teams slightly below (like 3-4-5) - gives the top clubs from smaller countires who otherwise wouldnt have a chance in the champs league to play. still a very very top notch tournament.

Negative... The UEFA Cup is basically the second best league in Europe. The UEFA Champions league is the best league.

Something to consider about the UEFA Cup in the future... #1 the UEFA Cup is being discountinued after this year, so its really a dead donkey. They are making a new cup with different qualifications.

#2 the UEFA Cup lacks the honorability that the Champions league has. So often you find coaches yielding their second team players to play in the UEFA Cup. For example last week when AC Milan went to Portsmouth to play, Portsmouth was using their bench players and still managed to draw against the likes of Ronaldinho, Kaka, Dede etc... The coaches do this because they want to avoid relegation in their own league, so you find the best players resting.

#3 Outside of the UEFA Cup, UEFA Cup teams in league play are great class markers when considering matchups. UEFA Cups are tough and some teams that are from the smaller European countries take them seriously. Or if the team has been struggling in their own league play.

And finally, Im russian and CSKA is going to be our new representative in the Champions league. Zenit had an aweful year. NIZ DOROVIA CSKA!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, for all of you who didnt know, CSKA was the former soviet team named after their army... the "red army".

so, what's this? AAA baseball or something like that. Well, I guess everyone would be shocked it Zilina wins, best thing about soccer is that there is always some team that is +900 or something like that, so you can get a nice upset if you know what you are doing.

Zenit played such beautiful football in the UEFA last year it was incredible, why don't they have the same success in the Russian league? Zenit really wowed me last year.

Well Arshavin is fed up with them for one, he has demanded a trade and refused to play... kinda like Starbury in the NBA.

The team was beat up and injured and the healthy quit halfway through the season.

Yea the UEFA Cup is AAA, except its much much much more professional and prestigious. Big crowds still attend these games.

Don't be fooled by that post.. like Euphoria said - UEFA isn't as glamorous and historic, so sometimes domestic league takes precedent over UEFA cup, but most teams in the cup are doing very well in their domestic leagues and treat it very seriously.

Russia doesn't care about soccer, just send all their hockey players over here, and they'll be okay.

Couldnt pick the analogy any better than the NIT and NCAA... exactly the same... except these tournaments are like 30 weeks long. LOL. I love how the champions league games on ESPN they say Match Day 6 etc... its really misleading because Champions league games are every 2 weeks, so Match Day 6 is really 12 weeks into the season.
