This was discussed and we went with the poster's SBR anniversary date instead. One big reason was how easily a poster could abuse the system and change birthday dates in the system.

I prefer to stay away from the daily points, but I wouldn't mind a once-a-year deposit of 2500 points for a year of posting.

Why not give people that option?

How would they know that you've logged in every day and posted every day to earn points for a whole year?
