To each their own. Before I met her, I said the same thing you are saying. But after being engaged for a few years, I realized I was going to do whatever she wanted. I didn't tell her that, but I knew. 50k is a lot of money but I've made good money for a while and had most of it saved up. And I actually paid for flights and hotel room accomadations for immediate family members on her side since the wedding was where I grew up. That decision has paid dividends over the years. Paying for the flights and hotel rooms was a sign of respect towards her family which is big in the latin community. Gotta show that respect to her family.
