The diet ive always used is eating 6 times a day no more than 2000 calories. 3 meals and 3 snacks. If you can run 2-3 times a week that is just a bonus. You can lose like 5lb a week just doing this.

#709Creature, keep going. I think I agree with William Walters in that I am a little skeptical that you could be adding muscle mass that is offsetting your fat loss. Seems like you should be seeing results on the scale. But if your clothes are fitting different, then maybe you are right. The consensus seems to be pretty divided between low carbs and low calories as far as diet goes. I have been on Atkins since late March. I have lost ~65 pounds so far, I am continuing to lose approximately .5 pounds per day on average. In part it is because I do not eat pizza, pasta, chips, fried foods, white rice, bread, cookies, etc. The other part is because I am going to the gym, working out with a trainer once a week, going to yoga classes, walking and carrying the clubs when I play golf. I think you may want to give a very low carb diet a shot for a while to kick start your weight loss. Does feel much better to lose weight. Keep at it, I am rooting for you.Comment -

#712Hey guys, paying about a dollar every 5 minutes here so just checking in REALLY quickly.
I'm not bailing at all lol. I told you in the video that I was leaving for up north for 2 weeks. I will be on VERY sparingly.
Also, I've been taking my dog for a long walk every morning while up here, and doing a (shorter) late night stroll every night around the resort. So things are good. I'm not throwing this all away just because I'm on vacation!
I read a lot of the diets and stuff you guys posted and I'm very interested in trying some of these tactics out.
Thank you so much guys, I will be back posting regularly on the 14th, but for now, it's going to be very little because I'm cheap.
Take it easy everyone!Comment -

#720Hey Man,
I just found your thread and wanted to put my two cents in.
I am in the process of losing weight myself. I am a little older and was a little heavier than you when I started. I got started because of some bad news on some blood tests. I've tied and failed a few times over the last couple of years to lose some weight, but when the Dr says you have a high risk of heart attack, stoke or sudden death, you get motivated real quick to lose weight. Dont wait til you get to this point!
Like you I am a former athlete. I played a little college football and was in great shape. I had back surgery around 2000 due to the abuse to my body. It was then that I packed on about 100lbs and did nothing about it for years.
I started my journey at the start of may. Ashamedly, I weighed in at the Dr office that day at 316.5. Grossly overweight for 6'1". At that point all I did was change my diet up (dropped down to 2000kcal a day) a little and over the next 2-3 weeks I lost about 17lbs and was happy to be at 299. Then I kind of let my self slip some. I started working out but went back to my old eating habits. I started to yo-yo a little. Depending on my intensity I would drop to 295 then bound back to about 305.
I was stuck. Well I wasn't really stuck, I just wasn't putting in the effort needed to keep losing the weight. So around mid June I decided to go see a bariatrics specialist (weight loss dr). I just need some help and I thought some pills would help. Well the first thing the Dr. did was put me on a calorimeter. I am sure you have seen the Gatoraide commercials with the athletes on the treadmill running with the tubes going into their mouth. That is a calorimeter. The one I did was resting to measure my resting metabolic rate. In other words how many calories my body burns just sitting still doing nothing. Well it turns out that I have an issue with my body and it doesnt burn the right amount of calories. I truly have slower than normal metabolism. Well to fix things I had to up my activity level and lower my calories to 1500 a day. This is low for most people but to fix my body I had to do it. When it comes down to losing weight no matter what you do it is all about calories in Vs. calories out. I adjusted my diet to 1500Kcal a day and worked out a menu with a macro split of 40% protien and a 30%-30% split of carbs and fat. That along with minimum 1hr day of cardio (I do what I call a wog part walk part jog) and 3 days a week I do 45 minutes to an hour of lifting. I work large muscle groups chest, legs, back and arms and abs on a circuit, and then 15-20 minutes of high intensity interval cardio.
That has been my plan. So since about the time you started I have gone from about 305 down as low as into the 260's at the start of August. Life happens as we all know and the last few weeks I have not worked as hard as I should and not ate as clean as I could. I was 275 as of Sunday and this week has been getting back to doing what I need to do to lose more.
I know next week will be an off week for me with going to the bash and all (The week will be my off my plan week and I know ahead of time as I am going to drink a lot and not stick to my diet) , but I promise you I will be back at it the following Tuesday. I have my next goal as being under 250lbs by Oct 1. So, if you need a push let me know and I will try and check in daily after that and push you a little.
This is something you either want to do or have to do. 300+lbs people don't usually have a long life expectancy, but your the only person who can do the things for you to get you where you need to be.
Take care of business Creature!Comment -

#722I got down to 223 fellas. A large part of my inspiration and motivation to lose weight recently was the start of this thread. I am having a hard time losing this little bit of extra weight because I am 6'4. My goal is to have a 6 pack by Jan 1 2012. It's tough sledding but it can be done. It really is a change of life style. You have to make everything a routine because no one will work out or eat healthy for you. I will post some pictures if this thread is still going strong on January 1 2012. I haven't had a 6 pack since I was playing basketball about 10 years ago, and I really am looking forward to accomplishing that small goal. I have found that motivation is easier when you set goals for yourself too. Like when you are benching 225 10 times one week. Make it a goal to get it up 12 times the next week. Or whatever weight you're working out with. then when you get to 12 add more weight and set more goals. Whatever ranges for all of your different workouts. Plyometrics has really helped me get stronger, and so has doing yoga. If you hit a climax change a part of your diet to make you have more energy. Usually adding a few more carbs only on the days you know you're going to need or use them. Creature is going to accomplish his goalsComment -

#724Actually, I just found this thread. I probably would never have posted my story on here, but I thought it could possibly help Creature with a little motivation. On the same note, just reading the thread has helped re-energize me a bit. Stories like this help remind you where you have been and where you need to get to. It's real easy to come home late, tired and in a bad mood and just want to sit in front of the tube or laptop and eat and drink whatever. This thread will be a reminder and motivation to keep to keep on the plan.Comment -

#726I hit a low point in my life, i was about 400 pounds.
I took a class in college about fitness and i encouraged running atleast 45 mins a day , lots of stretching and lifitng weights occasionally. Your body burns 99% sugar and 1% calories when you start working out, it gradually changes as your work out and at 45 mins you will be burning 99% calories and 1 % sugar.
cut out as much sugar as you can, especially soda and other sugary drinks. Drink water... love water...
Start with reasonable goals. Go for a run, walk when you need to ... if you make it 30 feet before you have to walk ... aim for 40 feet next time ... try walking/running a mile ... once you get to where you can run a mile without walking, aim for 2 miles. Once you get to 3 miles, make sure you ALWAYS going over 45 minutes.
I recommend nike plus ... make4s running fun and competitive. You look forward to it ... i was running 6 miles a day till i tore my Achilles. I bounced back and started training jujitsu and muay thai kickboxing, won an MMA Championship 2 weeks after getting the walking boot. Off. i weighed in at that fight at 247 pounds. (i was 220 when i got injured)
I am the tall guy on the left ... i had not trained in 6 months while my injury healed, but was about to go to Iraq and wanted to fight.
I eventually came back and got down to 240 and won the Ft Carson combatives tournament.
during the training for the All-Army tournament i broke a rib, fractured my knee cap, separated my shoulder and broke my big toe
I used the injuries as a reason to get lazy and im not floating at 290 less then a year later. I have been hitting about 3 miles every other and got back on Nike plus. If you want a friendly competition, we can get some other guys involved and have weigh ins once a week where we record with our phone cams and put them online, let me know. Im def downComment -

#727Very impressive SP!!
I agree with drinking water, lots of water. I started out drinking half my body weight in Oz's of water a day. On days I work and workout hard, I sweat like a manic and drink close to to 2 gallons a day. I do cheat at times. I will mix in 1 bottle of power/gatorade to 1 gallon of water for just a little taste.Comment -

#728Crystal light is really good .. and they have Margarita flavor. The Safeway knock off is even better and cheaper. You might gain water weight at first, but its not bad. Most people dont realize that you need a certain amount of water in your body for your metabolism to work right.

#735I am willing to do a challange. I have lost all the easy weight though, and now I am burning fat and trying to keep from losing too much muscle. Saw my fat Dr. today with an offical weight of 272. Down 8lbs from the last time there. Per the analysis I lost 6lbs of fat and only 1lb of muscle with a minimal 1lb of water weight fluctuation. I am happy with the progress. Official lbs lost since May 1 is 44.5lbs in 3.5 months, and working on my 2nd 10% of starting body weight.
Come on Creature. Post up pal. We are all here for you man.
My tip of the day. If you feel like eating and it might be out of boredom or emotional or stress. Drink a large glass of water first and if your still hungry then eat.Comment
