I remember one day when there was some kind of algorithm gone wild trading error and shitload of "money" disappeared from the system.

Can't find the link, if there is one anymore. I put money in quotes because until that money is gained or realized, it doesn't really exist, at least not at a determinate amount, only a guess.

A bit like the double slit experiment, the particle only decides where to be once looked at (stock sold) and until then is just a wave of potentiality (paper stocks floating in price in the market).

But you most certainly can lose real hard money.
