Keeping a gun for self-defense is the same as any other form of insurance. The majority of us make our car insurance payments, home insurance payments, whatever it is we want insured. Even though we haven't made a claim in 10 years--it's a good thing to have. The OP tried to ask a leading question to validate a belief of his own, but is an illogical question.

Only time I ever pulled a gun on anyone was back around 1998. 3 "Youths" were on my back porch putting duct tape over my backyard Light motion sensor at 3 in the morning.

Once word spreads around that you have a gun to defend your home, that is when you don't really need it.

Never had to use my gun. I've never had to call 911, either, but I'm glad we have a 911 system. I have fire insurance on my house, but never had a fire. I have a spare tire in my car, but can't remember how many decades ago I needed one, same with jumper cables.
