• The crucial charge was the criminal enterprise count which carried a mandatory life sentence

because if he goes to Jail in Mexico where he's closer to his remaining funds and influence he'll most likely end up in a minimum security country club (and probably breakout again lol) whereas in the states he'll be in a concrete tomb...that's why even all the way back to the 80's the biggest fear of these drug kingpins is to be extradited to the states
