I remember when he was diagnosed with HIV, walking through our high school halls and people were just in shock and some of the guys were even crying. It's really remarkable that he's still here 25+ years later considering the death sentence AIDS was thought to be at the time. All that stuff with people being scared to drink out of water fountains and Ryan White, etc yet we barely hear about it these days.

He has ("had?") HIV, which isn't full-blown AIDS.

He spent a small fortune on any kind of treatment he could. Rumors are that his HIV is "cured" but I don't know about all that. He did beat the brakes off of it, though.

Yeah we know the difference now but remember back then any mention of either word sent people into a panic attack and was thought to be a no hoper. It's hard to believe all that hysteria wasn't all that long ago in the scheme of things. Or maybe I'm just turning into a fossil

Magic is a good man.. Actually one of the few rich Black American athletes that invested in the black communities and hoods.. Magic Johnson theaters...

I got nothing bad to say about Magic, I've seen him around town over the years, good natured and always smiling.....

He did have those legendary crazy sex pool parties. Got HIV in the process and has a gay son... Magic gotta a little funky in the sack if I had to guess and God was watching and testing the man... Just a spiritual hunch...
