#37Being fat has been sold to the US and they bought hook, line and sinker.
It's a mind set and sensibility is out of control. From a young age many are told to finish their plate. They say things like "there are people starving in this world" as if that means something to Americans.
When people buy a meal, they want to "eat there money's worth" and basically it is instilled that you eat far more portions than is necessary.
Just because it's in front of you, it doesn't mean you have to eat it. Yet Americans do and still throw away tons of food yearly. There is too much available and it isn't managed well.
The food is terrible, sure, but it causes far worse unseen conditions than just weight gain.
Two groups of people ate Mcdonalds but one group cut their meals in half. That group gained no weight.
Portion control and education are seriously lacking in the US but it is getting better all around and especially in schools, at least the schools I've worked with.Comment -

#38People crush 2-3k calories in a sitting without even blinking - add a few beers or sodas and voila, the Midwest.
I don't even know any fat people except coworkers who don't live in So Cal.Comment -

#50How were they? I had tickets but had friends in town who didn't want to deal with the ridiculous heat so I sold them. I last saw The Dead (that specific iteration) at the Forum some years ago but it wasn't like the good ol days with Jerry.Comment -

I would go again.
I see another band with a few really good musicians that I've seen in the past jamming, they're called JRAD, Joe Russo's Almost Dead.
Pretty much a cover band but the musicians are outstanding and I'd like to see them. They will be at the Wiltern later this year.
Not many tickets left and had the nice one's up on the screen but held off before our crazy vacation week. I may need to plan this one and may have to convince my wife.

#53Maybe not enough accountability, 14-18 I was in shape through sports...college gained some weight through drinking beer but balanced out from sex and fear of becoming a slob...25-30 became a slob, nothing crazy but left my great body behind...30-present realized you only have one body, found a girl, a bit younger who was going through the same thing, now we both focus on our health and we are both trying to be the best versions of ourselves...can’t do it alone.Comment -

wow, some great comments, some sharp guys.
I think Mexico beat us out, I believe I read that a little while back. But we are definitely in the top 3 I would say. Watch some old B&W moves from the 40's you will see almost all of those female stars were little tiny girls. I believe the population was tiny also, on a whole. Some of the reason might be food deprivation during the depression years. Kids didn't eat enough. Even in the 60's and 70's the population wasn't as fat as it is today in the USA.
Most of the reasons given above I think are very valid, also maybe something in the food supply is somehow allowing women to mature quicker which will consequentially probably produce a quicker aging and more meat on the frame. This is just a theory, but who knows exactly what is going on--something for sure.Comment -

#70Lots of reasons Americans are so overweight, most already mentioned. Im an old fuk, when I was in school back in the 70s, there might be one overweight kid in every class, now I see young kids on tv in school half of them are overweight, and its sad. There is no mandatory physical education anymore, back when I was a kid you were forced to take PE and if you were the fat kid you were tormented daily. Now I suppose you would get kicked out of school if you called little fat Billy a fat fuk in class. Bottom line IMO is that kids dont do anything anymore but sit and play on their play stations or phones, not being overweight starts young, not at 20 or 30 years old.
