#2For the past several years, Mr. Bourdain hosted the show “Parts Unknown” on CNN and was working on an episode in Strasbourg, France, when he died, the network said Friday morning. He killed himself in a hotel room, the network said.Comment -

#5Anthony Bourdain dead at 61, apparent suicide - story still developing
Anthony Bourdain, a gifted storyteller and writer who took CNN viewers around the world, has died. He was 61.
Sources confirmed Bourdain's death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.
"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain," the network said in a statement Friday morning. "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."

Yea. I don’t feel sympathy for him.
But I feel like I traveled the world with this guy. And he thought like I think. Liked the same things (except heroin).
This is sounds harsh, but when musicians I like have killed themselves, there are still a bunch left.
Bourdain was unique. There is no one else like him.Comment -

His chef buddy, Eric Ripert, is probably cursing his name right now. Why Tony?Comment -

#20Loved Kitchen Confidential ...
And by the way - for those who read his books - "Bigfoot" was the owner of Dakota Roadhouse, a bar that ran its course years ago in lower Manhattan.
Bourdain was a regular in my cousin's bar and once got wasted and left a shit ton of manuscripts (all fiction with his character, Bobby Gold)... my cousin had zero interest and gave them to me. I read them, like it well enough, then got them back to Bourdain. I think the stories were published, probably between the window of his newfound fame as an author and his TV career.
But Bigfoot himself would have disappointed anyone on the surface - dour guy who loped around his bar. Bigfoot's #1 rule (besides high staff expectation) was to maximize use of space. Every square foot of wall space at Dakota Roadhouse had vending machines - whether novelties or trivia games.
All that said - my guess is this suicide is more like Michael Hutchence's than Kate Spade's.Comment -

#35Wow, what a shocker. Guy seemed to have it all. Awesome, fun job, young child, travel all over the world, meet people. On top of the world. But, you always knew that he struggled with drug addiction and that he had many vices. Reminds me of Robin Williams. Many people live their entire life to reach the pinnacle of success, then when they reach it, they wonder... "is that all"? Many successful people go through a depression because there's nowhere else to go once you reach the top. People look up to you but you have nothing more to accomplish. I liked his show, reminding me of a grittier Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous with Robin Leach but with food.
I'm at a kids camp and they're playing this song as I read this thread.
