    Baseball card enthusiasts need help!
    I'm looking for a gift.

What is the 89 Upper Deck equivalent for an Adrian Beltre?

I stopped collecting for so long but I really want to get a Beltre rookie card for someone this year. Is this the correct one? Or is there another RC that is considered his gem? Even a non RC but maybe an auto or jersey card that is good? Halp!!

I don't know either but I would think you could just ask a dealer and he would tell you. Ask 3 dealers and if they all have the same answer there you go.

I know JayVegas knows something about baseball cards, where is that annoying blue jay!

Sporty please lose that damn Trump avatar (join the anon crew for a bit) and wtf with Stetson last night?? That is a cologne not a CBB team. Keep up the posting, someone has to drive the drama. Merry Christmas to you

I think I was subliminally baited into Stetson with all the cologne commercials at this time of the year.

I will have a few winners for today up shortly

Last I heard, he & his slug are working some OT so they can afford some fine Vegas accommodations.

Looks good to me. I'd get the bgs graded though.

Not a hardcore collector or anything, but bowman chrome would probably be the best choice in '97 off the top of my head.

Here, I had nothing better to do. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-bowman-...sAAOSwcUBYM1kl

the founder of the company's daughter used to office next door to me in Orange County, she was an associate of the lawfirm I worked for....

Thank you guys for the links. What exactly is the cost of having a card graded these days? I'm assuming beckett is still the standard so that makes sense with the BGS scale instead of whoever the company of the one I posted.

Looking at the price guide that card is going for 12 bucks in the market yet it's listed at around 100 bucks with a grade on it? That is expensive just to slap a nm-mt sign on it.

I'd imagine that '97 Bowman is probably his best card on the market but like I said I haven't really collected these in many years. I can't believe the kids can't even open a pack now and have a good card without it being sent to a grading shop but I guess it makes sense. The corners were the grading scale we used lol.

Donk what are you planning for those? I wonder what an unopened pack even goes for these days because I think they canned Upper Deck cards so thats gotta be a cool collector item to still have.

It's been over 10 years since i had cards graded, but I remember it being overpriced, especially for one card it's not worth it. The reason why the graded is so much more is cause it's near impossible to get a bgs 9.5. I remember going over every inch of the cards I sent in thinking they were flawless and got 9's on most.

89 UD JR 9.5's were listed for 2-4k or something crazy in the price guide and was sure mine was, but no dice.

Wow good information and did not know how difficult it was to get 9.5-10. I also am realizing that this stuff has gone weird.....there are actually 3 variations on that one Bowman Beltre card. There is a black one, one that looks chrome with lines and a rainbow version that is apparently called refractor or something. Maybe that 8x10 auto or a bat auto collectable is a better option like what Diggity linked.

AutoDonk actually just gave me a great idea. Why not just buy a box of 97 Bowman? Adrian has proven very elusive for my special someone but a chance to open one would be pretty amazing.

                                    Okay thread closed.

I just ordered one box of 1997 Bowman Series 1 and one box of 1997 Bowman Chrome Series 1 on Amazon. 100 bucks

Better to buy the card outright or to get Willy Wonka the Amazon shipper to rig it for Christmas one time?

I'll let you guys know how it goes after. I think there is a Roy Halladay in this stuff as well.

That Barry bail Bonds rookie will net you soup for 2 weeks max. Lou Whitaker Alan Trammel Cecil Fielder Ian Kinsler etc living in Detroit will be much more valuable.

my most valuable football card was a f'n OJ Simpson card, then the prick goes off and slashes two people's throats......

fuk, who knows, it may still be my most valuable card......

pretty sure my Joe Greene Rookie card would be pretty valuable, had I not, at around age 8, taken a ball-point pin and added "MEAN" right above his name on the card.....

you can buy that same card without "mean" on it for around a grand on ebay right now.....

I've got 3-4 Pete and Re-Pete cards... has rose and his ball boy son kneeling side by side, if memory serves me right, looking out toward the scoreboard.....'

probably wondering how much they're up/down on the day's games.....

I don't know if I can convince the individual to allow me to record that and besides that's 40 some odd packs that would be ripped through looking for a Beltre. I may still do it though because that would be awesome to catch on video.

I've run through the regression analysis calculating for duplicates....222 cards per series, 24 packs 10 cards each, subtracting the bubble gum and possible card defects to find that one gem...leads me to a scientific estimation of around 54.7% chance of success. I checked the vegas consensus numbers this morning which have the NO Beltre for XXXmas heavily juiced at -169 which is concerning.

I was tempted to go with 100% and just buy it outright but what kind of gambling santa/regenerating degenerate would I be then?
