Fulton County Superior Court Judge Henry Newkirk said the evidence was overwhelming and that Blackwell had behaved in a soulless and malicious way. He noted that it "takes a long time" for a pot of water to boil.

So if the couple was your daughter and son in law it would still be excessive??? I would have given him the death penalty.

I don't know about the death penalty but no problem with the 40 years people like that need to be taken off the streets. Although i am sure he gets off way under 40 .

This is another reason I hate our "justice" system. Punishments dont make sense, had he done this and another judge and jury heard the case its possible he could have gotten probation or a couple years, nothing is ever balanced with the system.

Attempted murder dont get you 40 years does it? Besides they would be better off if he didn't go to jail for to long. That way they could get a civil case on him and end up paying them for the rest of his life. Maybe . I dont really know.

I said it makes it ok? All Im saying is the justice system is unbalanced when crimes should be more across the board considering about equivalent circumstances. Like I know if this crime was committed ten times by ten different defendants against a gay couple Im sure out of those ten judgements we'd see extremely varying lengths of sentences.

Some girl I grew up with was raped and murdered about 10 minutes down the road,the guy ended up getting 25. To me that is far worse,then this. So no 40 years is excessive.

I doubt it. The severity of the crime seems to be lost on you. You should be disturbed that other judges would be more lenient. The animal should never see the light of day again.

The way I feel.....the guy should get 40 years in prison, sounds about right.

Legally I don't know how they came up with 40 years. Aggravated assault gets a maximum of 20 years in Georgia. Don't see how this could be assault with a deadly weapon, is boiling water a deadly weapon? Unless the guy was a repeat offender..... then maybe they could up the sentence.

Georgia doesn't have a statewide hate crime law.

They suffered severe burn injuries. That is life threatening and can be permanent. Aggravated assault is the least i would call it.
