extremely overrated holiday. memorial day and veterans day should be ranked ahead of it by far. just an excuse to go on vacation. big deal the nation's birthday. meaningless. ok as long as it's part of a weekend but when on a tues-wed-thurs. do you just stop everything and celebrate it. fireworks end up burning people more often than not. that sappy concert in boston cannot even get a sponsor for next year. parades are obsolete. interest has waned.

I actually went to Canada one year and Mexico another just to get away from it all.

Don't even go to see the fireworks any more. I've learned that they still look the same after 4 decades. Kids never did like them once they became teenagers anyway.

Damn "personal use" fireworks make me feel like I'm living in a freakin' war zone. This year they started at about 5 PM and didn't stop till after 2 AM. Totally freaked my two dogs out for nine straight hours. This is one "tradition" and holiday I could do without.
