Thousands gathering in New York just to get a glimpse of a man. Never understood confessing to a man either, whole thing seems pedestal-like, not something a humble man of God would want.

#2My thoughts as well. U.S. media acting like tween girls at a Bieber concert. Just turned it on and CNN says oh goodness, look, he's waving at the people now, this is remarkable.
Confusing to say the least.Comment -

#4To catholics, he is almost God. He is the vicar of christ, I remember my World History teacher saying that pope meant above man, below god. Yesterday this lady wanted to talk about how amazing it was that he kisses kids and stuff and I had to smile and nod. I am like you guys I don't get it but i am not catholic.Comment -

#8Pope John Paul l was assassinated just a month after being anointed, serious business the church is.
Pope Frank needs to stick to religion and hush up about business, sounds like a fool on a high horse.Comment -

#14I have great respect for holy men even though I claim no denomination myself, that goes for the pope and the dalai lama.

#15I'm fascinated by the papacy.
For starters, what other leadership can trace itself back almost 2000 years with accuracy?
Religious leaders are really intriguing, Yes, I think they sell snake oil pretending to offer after-life insurance (heck, the catholic church used to guarantee forgiveness for sins and entry into heaven with the right amount of $$. See: "indulgences")
1.2 billion people all (well maybe not all) believing this guy essentially has a Bat-Phone to the almighty. Pretty amazing.
Greatest move by them was to cozy up to Mussolini and get the "Nation" status. No need to open your books to audits, you can avoid lawsuits etc.Comment -

#23Little abt him or his organization resembles Christ. But then, neither does much abt Benny Hinn resemble Christ. From the beginning of time, man thought "hmmmm how can I improve on what God has said or done" and thus the chicanery and problems. Paul openly rebuked the so called first Pope and Peter backed down. Get an idea of the organization by watching the Borgias. Pretend you were stranded on a desert island and a Bible floated up. Read it (even in the King James version) and you will understand all you need to know. The rest is up to you.Comment -

#24Oh it makes sense. If parents didn't introduce kids to any religion until they were adults, religion would die out in 2-3 generations. But when you have kids being told stories of hell and damnation when they still have (other) imaginary friends, it's bound to stick.

#26You do have to have a laugh at the irony of the Vatican and the Pope though. The man comes here and preaches how we need to be welcoming to anyone who wants in, shower them with our riches, and be open and transparent with love and forego the love for prosperity. He'll soon return to the Vatican, which is a private city/nation of its own made of gold with hundred plus foot walls surrounding and armed guards shut off from the rest of the outside and is worth trillions of dollars in money and assets, and tax free. Its a pretty good gig if you can get it I suppose.Comment -

#28brooks85 is such a one trick pony
Everything is sheep sheep sheep
Sheep on the brain day and night
This is what I feel about the Pope.
I feel like he has a kind heart and has devoted his life to good (not evil like so many) but all of this idol worship of him goes against Christianity (as others have pointed out in this thread). The Catholic Church by and large can kiss my a s s with all their scams.
But guys coming in this thread taking a dump all over the Pope's face.........what have you done to help mankind? Parlay the Blue Jays and the Over? Please.Comment -

#32wolf in sheeps clothing, a humble prophet would never allow such a circus of idolism
But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
Their land is also full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made.
Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.Comment -
