To catholics, he is almost God. He is the vicar of christ, I remember my World History teacher saying that pope meant above man, below god. Religious leaders are really intriguing, Yes, I think they sell snake oil pretending to offer after-life insurance (heck, the catholic church used to guarantee forgiveness for sins and entry into heaven with the right amount of $$. See: "indulgences")
1.2 billion people all (well maybe not all) believing this guy essentially has a Bat-Phone to the almighty. Pretty amazing.

Little abt him or his organization resembles Christ. But then, neither does much abt Benny Hinn resemble Christ. From the beginning of time, man thought "hmmmm how can I improve on what God has said or done" and thus the chicanery and problems. Paul openly rebuked the so called first Pope and Peter backed down. Get an idea of the organization by watching the Borgias. Pretend you were stranded on a desert island and a Bible floated up. Oh it makes sense. If parents didn't introduce kids to any religion until they were adults, religion would die out in 2-3 generations. But when you have kids being told stories of hell and damnation when they still have (other) imaginary friends, it's bound to stick.

You do have to have a laugh at the irony of the Vatican and the Pope though. The man comes here and preaches how we need to be welcoming to anyone who wants in, shower them with our riches, and be open and transparent with love and forego the love for prosperity. He'll soon return to the Vatican, which is a private city/nation of its own made of gold with hundred plus foot walls surrounding and armed guards shut off from the rest of the outside and is worth trillions of dollars in money and assets, and tax free. This is what I feel about the Pope.
I feel like he has a kind heart and has devoted his life to good (not evil like so many) but all of this idol worship of him goes against Christianity (as others have pointed out in this thread). The Catholic Church by and large can kiss my a s s with all their scams.
