    Any Real Life Detectives here?
Watching shows like the Wire and True Detective make me want to consider being a detective...

If i join the police academy realisticly how long do i have ride around in a patrol car before i can get promoted to Detective in the Major Crimes division?

Does having a college degree help expedite this processs?

No quick easy answer to faulty question.

      How long to be promoted

      20 man force
      50? 200? 1000?
      10,000?

It takes talent but the size of the department matters too

Small dept...not as easy to move up as LAPD/ NYPD etc

Get a law degree if you want any chance in a big city. Or 25 plus years on the force.

Law degree is quickest way, IMO.

I'm not a real detective, but I'm real dedicated to wearing a trench coat in public places. I occasionally have been known to snoop around with my oversized magnifying glass in hand, or "accidentally" let slip open the front of my trenchy, revealing parts of my anatomy normally concealed by one's underoos. That's when the real detectives are dispatched and I spend the night at Custody Suites.

Yeah, Darkhat & MikeYanks are detectives for Darkhat Investigations. Their great detective work revealed I'm the owner of 18th hole sportsbook.

                Some taken, offense that is.

I'm not that old. And I'm no creepier than the assclown flying kites at the park. So what if I have a proclivity towards trench coats with nary an undergarment, save for a tube sock hugging my hangdown? McGruff wore trenchies all the time, and he's the foremost crime fighting authority in the canine community. The Red Hot Chili Peppers turned tube socks into tallywhacker accessories and they just played the Super Bowl. So who are you to judge how I choose to spend a Sunday afternoon without football?

my ex should of been a detective. Beotch always tracked me down, cracked my phone and passwords. I didnt have anything to hide but she always dug so deep it was ridiculous. She would have been a great detective
