You can break it down by race if you like but it's all about an individual.
There is no denying that gamblers are the best tippers (maybe cause it's easy money?) When I was younger my family would tip much more(and not just at restaurants) then my cousin's who were much much richer then we were.

As for Indians and Asians not tipping enough....
In those cultures tipping is not existent so you find a lot of Indians/Asians not tipping as generously (not that it means they get a free pass) but I think over time living here they get the memo....
If you go to India or Thailand and such places you would see the servers are paid accordingly because there is no such system as tipping and servers making a living based on tips.

Been in the F&B industry 13 years boys, these are just the facts. If you worked for less than minimum wage, relied on tips, worked 5X as hard to keep these tables happy (while having to spend less time on tables that don't do you dirty as a result), and took it in the ass for your efforts over and over again, you'd be a lot less Kum-Ba-Yah too.

Edit: If a group of French people for example come in (because this happens way too often), run up a $500 check, and leave you a $10 bill, you've actually lost money because you tip your own support staff based on your sales. Imagine that, running around ragged for a bunch of fukks with annoying social norms and LOSING money in the process.

And other countries do it different where they're from, I get it. But it's the same as them whining about us for going over there and not knowing their language/customs. On British Airways, they even tell you when you land how to tip when you get here. They all conveniently pretend not to listen.

I can also vouch for this....I am in the taxi business, and I want to say that about 95% of whites tip, and only about 20% of blacks tip....I've also talked to several other drivers, and it's the same for them as well....

I remember way back when I started driving I would pick up any race...I also treated everyone the same..But after a while I got tired of being treated like shit from the blacks, not getting tipped, or even worse them not having money for the fare....I remember picking up some young black kid during prime time party time on a Friday night in the pouring cold rain...He came up to me acting like he was gonna start crying, and if I could pick him up....So I did, it was pouring rain I felt bad....Well as soon as that rooster_eater got in the cab his tone changed....He started ordering me to turn here, turn there....then when we got to his destination I got no tip....penetrate HIM AND penetrate THE BLACKS - CHEAP penetrating BASTARDS !!!

I worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years and I will vouch that this is spot on.

I have many black friends of whom are the best of my friends who I worked with in the industry. Even black waiters/waitresses dislike waiting on black people/families. They run you ragged, treat you like you're a lowly peasant then tip terribly. This is speaking GENERALLY. I have waited on black tables before and have met really nice people that tip well...but I will say that is definitely NOT the norm. I will say old people generally don't tip well either but I attribute that, for the most part, to not keeping up with the times (ie here's a dollar, you could buy a week's worth of groceries with that back in my day!). At least they typically do not demean you. There's not much of an Indian/Asian/Arab population where I come from, so I can't really say much for them.

If you have ever working in the industry, you usually hear something along these lines: If I could make the laws in the United States, I would put in a law that makes it mandatory for every person in the country to work just one week as a waiter or waitress just so everyone knows how demanding, physically and mentally, the job is and how much you depend on tips to survive and pay the bills. I really wish this could be done, but a week is not long enough. Try it for a year...rely on making enough money this shift to pay rent or rely on making enough money the next shift to pay the electric bill. You work the worst hours, nights and weekends, most holidays, and sometimes double shifts that may go 12 hours a day...these people bust their asses. When you're friends are at the lake on the 4th of July, or partying on a Saturday night, you are stuck at work. It sucks and I feel for them.

For those who don't believe in tipping or think it's unnecessary, I would like for you to step back and think about the possibility of someone dear to you such as your son or daughter in the future...working as a waiter to try to make it through college. Or think about it being a single mother trying to make an earning to buy diapers for her child and put food on the table. In American society, we have set a standard that makes tipping necessary in certain services such as F&B, taxi, hotel, etc. If you can't or won't tip, then don't solicit the service. Go to fast food places or cook at home. Drive yourself.

Lastly, another argument I hear from those who don't believe in tipping is that waiters/waitresses don't have to or aren't forced to work in restaurants for a living...get a job doing something else that pays more hourly. (1) The job market is not exactly the best right now and good decent paying jobs are hard to come by especially for those who do not have the education or qualifications for those jobs. Despite assholes out there who do not tip, luckily there are others who do and make working in the restaurant business worthwhile. That's why there are people still in the service industry. (2) However, let's say you are right...nobody is forcing waiters to work in the F&B industry...get a job doing something else. Well then, every single waiter and waitress out there quit and go do something else. Who is going to wait on you now? Nobody? No more going out to eat at a nice restaurant and enjoy a nice dining experience? A whole industry is eliminated which is not only bad for those who enjoy dining out, but also for the American economy. This is not a viable argument as well.

What's next, tipping an airline pilot? What about the subway/tram/trains, should I tip them as well? Where does it end? Tipping is a scam; you're already getting paid a fair wage to do your job. The incentive to do well is that you get to keep your job. Don't like it? Get a better paying job.

Tipping a cab driver is essential because cab drivers live on their tips . They only get small percentage of ride and rest of the time sit around because ridership is at an all time low. Also taxi and limousine businesses pay high commercial insurance rates so tips are an essential part of the business to keep their businesses going. Even the black cab drivers don't want to pick up blacks because they know who tips and who doesn't. That's another big proof. Ali the cab driver doesn't give a damn about the races, all he cares about is money but these guys learn very quickly who gives up the green and who doesn't.

Every job in the USA that you generally tip live off of tips. From cab drivers to pizza boys, that is essentially how they make a living.

Ahh, so they deserve a tip for walking the few feet to me, vs me walking the few feet to them? And I should pay them for doing this? They're already being guaranteed the federal minimum wage, even if nobody tips them whatsoever.
