    Silk Road has re-opened
For all your illicit substance needs...

And they said it had been shutdown

Like its predecessor, the new Silk Road listed hundreds of advertisements for marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and other illegal drugs available for purchase from independent sellers using the anonymous Bitcoin digital currency.

San Francisco: A new anonymous Internet marketplace for illegal drugs debuted on Wednesday, with the same name and appearance as the Silk Road website shut down by US law enforcement authorities a month ago.

Like its predecessor, the new Silk Road listed hundreds of advertisements for marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and other illegal drugs available for purchase from independent sellers using the anonymous Bitcoin digital currency.

On October 1, the Federal Bureau of Investigation shut down the original Silk Road and arrested its alleged mastermind, Ross William Ulbricht, 29, known online as “Dread Pirate Roberts,” in San Francisco.

“It took the FBI two-and-a-half years to do what they did…but four weeks of temporary silence is all they got,” a site administrator wrote, also using the “Dread Pirate Roberts” moniker.

The FBI declined to comment on the new version of the Silk Road. For more than two years, the original site acted like an eBay of vice, allowing users to buy and sell illegal goods and services on the assumption that they were safe from the law. Deliveries were made through the mail in discrete packages.

U.S. authorities also say Ulbricht had tried to call out a hit on a user who had threatened to expose the identities of thousands of Silk Road users.

The charges against Ulbricht said his website generated sales of more than 9.5 million Bitcoins, roughly equivalent to $1.2 billion.

The new website improves on technology from the previous Silk Road meant to keep identities secret, including measures to keep users from losing their Bitcoins in case the site shuts down, according to the new Dread Pirate Roberts.

A week after authorities shut down the Silk Road, British police said they arrested four men accused of being significant users of the site.

Like the original Silk Road, users access the new site using a no-cost, anti-surveillance service known as the Tor network instead of traditional web browsers.

The new Silk Road will soon hire staff to handle marketing for the site, the administrator mentioned in his post.

“The Silk Road has risen once more…Open communication with your old suppliers and customers, let this wonderful news be taken to all corners of the Tor Network and beyond,” the person wrote.

    Power to the people boys

BigBoy, just wondering if you understand even the most basic idea of Tor?

The ONLY thing the US gov. can do, is attempt to purchase large quantities, arrange meeting spots, and nail the dealers one by one. Other than that, 100% unenforceable, Tor is basically foolproof in that you CANNOT track the locations of the initial sender or receiver.

I thought I read somewhere that the FEDS got access to one of the servers and could see live what ISP people used. I know how TOR works, but I don't know if someone is seeing it live makes a different or not.

Gummo theres no proof this actually occurred, only innuendo and heresay.

However, if your genuinely concerned about privacy then simply buy a 2nd hand laptop (every couple of months) that's not in your name and use only public wifi spots away from home that are undercover that are out of the reach of direct camera access.

When a problem is created so to is the solution, if you look hard enough ;-)

That's true there is no proof of the FEDS getting on the servers, and I have the feeling that information might have been "leaked" to just scare off potential customers on Silk Road.

Yes. from my understanding the 'leak' was a regular SR customer who probably wasn't satisfied with his drugs lol

The same guy that had had a hit ordered on him by the then kingpin of SR "Dread", who we know later got caught for ordering said hit...

Also one of the distributors on SR was working with the FEDS, so some of his customers were arrested. Other than that, I think most of the people sending the product out haven't been uncovered.

I sure do understand TOR sir. Infact I was using TOR while working here at SBR at one time and I was hacked into... needless to say I got rid of it. Hell, it's actually pretty funny story too because I wasn't doing anything bad or anything. Just ask Mr.Dozer because I remember telling him at the time I wouldn't put the company at risk knowing my computer was indeed compromised.

100% true story and can ask Mr.Dozer yourself under his new handle ( I won't tell you it though) if you like

                                I agree...

Drug availability is beyond rife (if that's your thing and despite what the "war on drugs" will tell you)...

I think SR is more about the harder stuff like euthanasia drugs like pentobarbital etc...You know, the stuff you cant simply buy off the street...

Oh absolutely however, it just proves my point in regards to TOR being hackable meaning the company/books are at huge risk using that service. Now wouldn't you agree?

Correct me if I'm wrong here but wasn't there another bust to a gun runner yesterday? Now if TOR is safe like you claim then how they hack into TOR and bring that gentlemen to justice?
