I guess I was surprised by the difference between days. France over 100% increase in one day. I don't recall seeing that for France in a long time.
I believe it was because they weren’t counting deaths from nursing homes before, and then today they added them all up from the past weeks and just included them in today’s number.

Theres an explanation on that world o meter website

Never made a bet. You were irritated that I posted that and wanted to bet. The week isn't over so it will be pretty close to 10000 unfortunately. You probably thought it wasn't going to be anywhere near 2500 even. Be honest.

Did the model have covid-19 as the third leading cause of death heading to #1 next week?

Mostly it's elderly people over the age of 75 who get pneumonia which started from the flu. the flu does not kill 200K a year in the USA. one year, the 2016/17 season, it killed 80K, but that was an aberration. it is typically 20K to 50K per year. the true cause of death is pneumonia which developed from the flu. the flu did not kill them - something worse did.

but get this: COVID-19 is hospitalizing and killing people under the age of 60 !!

when was the last time you heard of someone being hospitalized by the Flu who was under the age of 60 ???

and put on a respirator of which only 20% survive and 80% die !!!!!!

flu vs covid 19 is apples and oranges. get educated. free your mind. become someone bigger and better and smarter than you are.

                  most importantly: wake up !!!!

Ironically, it is because this version of SARS is not as deadly that it is going to kill so many people because people are not afraid of getting it. With a more deadly version, it would have been contained straight away.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Also, people with SARS wouldn't walk around spreading it for 2 weeks. People would stay the heck away from them, or they were in the hospital already. This virus would be a lot easier to contain if it had more serious and immediate symptoms.

True to an extent. The fact that asymptomatic and presymptomatic people can spread it requires extreme measures assuming everyone can give it to you.

Central parts of USA likely are last places hit. If Bell curve of deaths and new cases in EU are starting to slow or head in a downward direction, then U.S. should start to follow maybe a week or 2 later. ...with a little luck.

When case rates are rising far faster than the death rate, then statistically people will begin to see this is not that much more serious than the average flu.

The best thing that could happen to the US is show that 500,000 people have it and less than a 1,000 will have died. That will show the response to this is asinine.

Probably more in the 5-10% range. The US at present is roughly 2 million test below the 1% threshold. Very few countries have had enough tests to scientifically make a final case/death prediction.

Probably more in the 5-10% range. The US at present is roughly 2 million test below the 1% threshold. Very few countries have had enough tests to scientifically make a final case/death prediction.
