I'm mixed on Iraq. We should have finished them in '91. We invaded them 23 years too late. We just should have been more honest about our intentions. I have no problem saying "Listen, we believe the regime is evil and can lead to more terrorism. It's essential for peace in the region that we take Hussein out." I had a problem making up lies to say why we went in there.

What screwed us up in Iraq was the strategy. Colin Powell was adamant that we needed more troops in there and we didn't listen to him. We swept through there and then didn't have a good post-war strategy. Waaaaay too few troops (me being one of them). If we had put the maximum number of troops in there right after the war like Powell wanted, we would have had nowhere near the problems we had.

He had a good first term. His approval ratings were higher than Obama’s in his first 4 years. It went to hell when he misjudged the post-war resistance in Iraq. From there on, the last three years went downhill. The economy went with it.
