The only way it self destructs is that they took out the taxes. Otherwise it never self destructs. Also the reason that anthem and humana are opting out is because they tried to merge and it was denied. It has been proven that the opted out of counties they were making money on. Ps Brother works for humana for over a decade (which started out as a catholic hospital out of louisville) . I used to sell for anthem and they are big in cincy where i lived for 40 years.

And I've had an Obamacare exchange plan for the past several years. Every major insurer dropped out of NYC except for Anthem and UHC. What they did was jack up premiums and cut down their networks to exclude most of the decent hospitals/doctors in the area. [I'm referring to the most expensive plans avail. on the exchange, btw]. If you call in to make an appt. and tell them you have United Healthcare, they say "Ok, great. Wait -- you have a normal plan, not something you got on the exchange, right?" "Uh, no. So they are essentially selling branded Medicaid -- nothing resembling what they offer to employers. There's only so much cutting down of networks you can do. They have no other levers to pull besides dropping out, which UHC and Anthem almost surely will do in 2018.

Same thing is happening across the country. So no, Obamacare would not survive more than another 18 months without major changes anyway.

I also had after stroke. Make too much on disability to get a credit. My brother works for humana. An ex partner sells for anthem and and many guys that had contracts with me that work for united health care. Your problem is that in new york the only way you can sell in the state is if you have a home office in it. That begins to limit the companies that can sell to you.

It's not a NY thing. Some other states have zero major insurers on the exchange. I had indiv. insurance in NYC for years before Obamacare and you could get the same exact networks that were offered to businesses -- i.e., good ones. They've whittled away at the networks (these are special networks they created solely for exchange plans, btw) every single year since Obamacare started. They aren't just slow-paying, btw. They are low-paying. They reimburse doctors so shittily that all but the most desperate doctors leave the network over time.

Anyway, it's not sustainable at all. Once all the doctors leave all the exchange plans and/or insurers leave all the markets, you have no exchanges. And, yes, insurer greed is a big part of the equation -- as it always is. But there is nothing in place to stop it. The two things they forgot to regulate -- what markets you have to participate in, and how reasonable your reimbursement rates need to be -- ensured eventual failure of the ACA.
