U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met with France’s Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and President Francois Hollande to offer condolences on the terrorist attacks that killed 17 people in Paris last week — and he brought a friend.

James Taylor joined Kerry onstage at city hall, where the singer performed a rendition of Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend” in tribute to victims of the attacks.

Before arriving in Paris, Kerry said of the trip, “My visit to France is basically to share a big hug for Paris and express the affection of the American people for France and for our friends there who have been through a terrible time.”

We WERE seen as liberators, but we failed to secure the borders and then the troublemakers flooded the country and started the insurgency.

When President Bush said "Mission Accomplished", we did not realize he was referring to Part I of a poorly conceived, completely unnecessary action that has left alot of America's greatest DNA either dead or without arms/ legs/ sanity. The private sector (Wounded Warriors et al ) has stepped up to fill the void of the national disgrace we call "caring for our vets". Apparently during the planning stage of the Iraq war, the toy soldiers on the desk of the oval office representing US service men/women did not need anything after a "bad guy" shot them. I remember a few juicy tidbits from those days...."transformation" was going to save the day. Chief of Staff of the Army (CSA) 4-star Gen. Eric Shinseki was sacked when in his opinion (when planning a war, not sure why you would ask this guy anything) clashed with the VP on the number of troops needed to defeat and SECURE Iraq. Gen. Shinseki was the last CSA to be a Vietnam Veteran and was very familiar with what an "insurgency" would do to troops both physically and mentally. "Well let's assume the world is linear. If we required a certain amount of troops per 25,000 population in the Balkans, if the world is not radically different, something of the same extent is going to be needed in Iraq" Gen. Eric Shiseki CSA from June 1999 to June 2003. Knowing Americans distaste for large troop deployments, Pres Bush and numbnuts VP Cheney dumped Shinseki whose assessment of the Iraq war unfortunately was correct. An insurgency did take place killing and maiming troops. Not the first, last, only or multitude of examples of this President ignoring the advice of people who actually did their jobs! So help me to understand how sending a "high ranking" member of the Administration to appear in Paris with a French politician, whose govt has opposed US foreign policy on virtually everything, would accomplish. France's record on anti-terrorism is not exactly stellar starting with their refusal to allow US bombers to overfly France to bomb Libya after Ghaddafi blew a commercial airliner out of the sky over Lockerbie, Scotland in the '80's all the way up to them currently building two warships for Russia.
