    Poker clubs in your area
Im noticing a lot of poker clubs opening in the Portland are and was wondering if they are popping up everywhere.

Basically they are a sports bar with poker tables where they host tournaments. Since they are a social gaming place all buy-ins go into the prize pool and the house takes nothing.

Seems like a good business idea and i may be checking them out soon

I miss the New York Players Club. The Trader Joe's that opened where it used to be is some consolation, though.

we have poker in bars in florida. they are free games and if you win you get to play in larger tourney and winner of that gets vegas trip and buyin to major poker tourney there. In Virginia and some other states it is illegeal to have playing cards be used in a drinking establishment, even if there is no gambling.

When I lived in NC, they had a World Tavern league. Poker with buy ins would get shut down in a heartbeat in the south, but they have video poker/slot "lounges" everywhere. Go figure

                Poker games

I play in a bar game (not World Tavern Poker, however) just outside of Detroit that is a free game (we get 25-30 players every Monday), but you do get extra chips if you are a fan of the bar on Facebook, and you buy food beforehand. Yes, you're trying to win and do well, but it's more of a social game-type atmosphere...a fun way to kill a few hours in the evening.

Over the last 2 years, charity poker rooms have been popping up all around the area. Cash game tables are full of fish, and the tournaments have a 20% rake on them ($40 buy-in tourney, for example, will see only 80%, or $32, go into the prize pool)...but a solid tournament player can still be very profitable at these games.
