    So..... am I a jerk?
So am I a jerk? (Well, the answer is yes but I mean am I a jerk in this instance)

B&M 1-2 no limit, guy in #9 seat on total tilt with about $50, goes all in pre flop (I don't even know if he looked). Action folds to woman in #8 seat, she calls.

Flop comes Q-9-2. 2 players, 1 all in, so dealer just cranks out the turn, an A, and river 10. Woman shows A-A so the guy in #9 flips over his cards in disgust, showing J-8. He starts getting up to leave, dealer flips his cards upside down to bring them in to the muck and pay her.

Literally no one at the table but me noticed it (except maybe the woman in the #8 seat but she kept her mouth shut), and without even thinking, I blurt out "he had a straight." As soon as I said it I wish I kept my mouth shut but hey, you can't unring a bell.

The dealer's like "no he didn't" and shows the J-8, flips the cards upside down once again to shove her the chips. But by now another player noticed and told the dealer to wait a second. Dealer shows the J-8 again and we all took a look at it, and then he was like ohhhhh yeah, I see it now….

So what's everyone's opinion on that? The cards do the talkin' but sometimes they need help. Should players correct an error in a hand that doesn't involve them?

"You were right--but you were wrong, too."

That dealer should be ashamed of himself. Even if it was his first day and he was in his first HOUR, that was very incompetent.

But you were wrong to speak on it.

(I would have done a version what you did, more than likely. I'm jus' sayin'.)

You were correct. Cards speak, if he flipped over his cards, best hand should take the pot. If you were sitting next to him, and he showed you his hand then mucked his hand in disgust without flipping it over, then yes you should not say anything - then it becomes one player to a hand. But once he flips his cards, cards speak, pot has to be awarded to best hand.

I'd only ever be the guy who missed that he had won, not the woman shutting up about it, so I'd prefer everyone point out obvious dealer errors like that no matter what.

Could go either way. Personally id immediately punch you in the face. If he's too on tilt/drunk/incompetent to know he has a straight, that's only on him. Well it should've been the dealer.

Reminds me of a time pap was playing 3 card. He nor the dealer saw he won. I point it out and the dealer is stillconfused. She had to bring over the floor to explain the rules of poker.

Agreed it go either way. Not your job to do the dealer's job, but certainly not against the rules or etiquette to point out a tabled hand. If I like the guy with the straight and don't like the other guy, I might point it out and vice versa.

I've been in almost this exact situation. I blurted out that the dealer was giving the pot to the wrong person without really even thinking about it, seemed like nobody else would have noticed

Felt kind of bad especially towards the person who would have otherwise won the pot. But as ArunSh said, cards speak. If they're shown, I don't think a dealer screwing up should necessarily prevent the pot from going to the right player. You're basically just pointing out a rule in the game and then allowing the dealer to double-check and correct their mistake

depends on who my teammate is.... if its the guy, you're a hero..... only a jerk if the woman is who I'm pooling with......

on a serious note, I have no problem with what you did.... not a jerk move to simply correct a dumbass dealer, even if you're not in the pot.... it's the right thing to do.....

I think you did the right thing. The guy won according to the rules so he should win the pot, even if he's stupid. The woman was effectively stealing from the man. If you see someone stealing, shouldn't you tell someone about it? You're definitely not a jerk.
