My take in regards to poker at the club and poker at the casino
Since quitting my job I have been playing a ton of limit poker. I play 4-5 nights a week from 6:30 to 2:00-3:00 AM. Usually I play at the 8/16 level with occasional shots at the 15/30 game. I decided to try the lower limits 3/6 and 4/8 since I could now play more often and longer sessions. I started out playing at the poker club which has no slot machines and is just mainly poker. It was kind of up and down with me making a modest profit after a week or so. I decided to try poker at some of the area casinos. The play at the 3/6 level at these casinos has been atrocious. People calling on the river with full houses, people calling every bet to the river holding pocket fours with five over cards on the board, people not raising preflop with pocket AA and KK. They are just giving money away there. It's not really impressive playing at this level but it is pretty easy to make $100-$200 a night just playing ABC poker and it sure beats working.

I think the better players go to the card club and when at the casino you get a ton of novices that come in and play poker after getting raped at slots or black jack. They play every hand, never raise, always bet top pair, Very easy to read and play against.

It's work. It's just fun work.

That's what it's about. You want them to do that all day, every day. While they may sting you from time to time, overall, you will get their money.

Totally agree there. I got caught playing poker til 3am the other night when I was hoping to get out by 3. There was just too much money to make off the novices. Great night!

imho you are playing at the perfect time, between midnight and 3am.
tons of loose players at the casino here at that time, and quite a few drunks. having 2 loose players at a table is just about perfect for me, more than that and it seems to really drain the profits long-term.

the reason is that while it's good to have one or two loose callers and guys that play more hands than most, 3 or more of them that play no fold-em all the way to the river makes for an uncomfortable and unprofitable table from my experience.
