How would MLB players of Today Fare in 1912?
    Time machine and purely hypothetical.

Doesn't even have to be today players.

Can you imagine Bo Jackson dropped into the old game?

Arnoldis chapman with the huge 1912 strike zone? Although no one would be able to catch him. SS's and 2nd Basemen with power?

I shudder to think what old time defenses were like back the. With those tiny gloves.

      basically men vs boys

      no specialty relievers

      no splitters

id guess the quality of the bats and balls might hinder power

        Spit balls allowed.

Talent pool was 1/100th of today.

Development was basically non existent other than playing pick up and factory team sand lots

Wonder if the babe would get his 54 ounce bat around on randy Johnson's heater off the higher mound with a ball that was blackish brown from being used all game

No oversees scouting(Japan and Caribean), no African Americans, no strength and conditioning coaches, and domestic scouting was substandard for obvious reasons. The players during that time were plucked from a limited talent pool, and lacked the overall development of modern day players.

None of the players compare to what is in the league now. Its a given modern players could all play in 1912. Better question is who from past decades could play today?

pretty much a given that all players in 1912 had a side job to bring home the bacon

Well, hypotheticly speaking, this angle works with all sports. That is why it is hard to define "The Greatest of All Time". This day and age, imagine no shot clock, curveless hockey sticks, no helmets in football, and Babe Ruth with a modern bat. Unreal.

So how would today's players perform in 1912 with out weight rooms, special diets, travel by train, off season work outs etc etc. Two different eras which can't be compared at all since the differences between then and now are astronomical.

People like Shoeless, Hornsby, Cobb would still thrive in today's game. Not the power hitters but the quality hitters. Put them in the McCutchen category but not as quick, save Jackson.

brock landers, thanks for using the term darkies, it got a chuckle out of me, whats even more funny is someone who gets offended by the term, this is 2012, can we all be past getting offended by words? I mean we live in information age combined with freedom of speech, any "person" who says they are offended by a "racist comment" just hasnt been around long enough or is living under a rock, not to mention their lack of self-worth and inability to understand that racism today is used more for comedic relief and doesnt hold much weight in being "offensive", in order to be "offensive" you have had to be indiscriminately/unfairly treated/ missed opportunity because of ur race.....but segregation ended long ago and we even have a black president so please STFU!

any demcrat who says that the poor in america are poor because of lack of opportunity are ******* tards.....
